Fire Behind the FlameA Poem by Bruce R. AlexanderSometimes the fire and determination was not sparked by a singular event in that person's life, it is simply the transferance of a small bit of that flame from one place, or in this case, one person to another. If eyes are windows…the soul is the fire beyond the grate. The blue flame that burned clean before I learned of hate Beyond the chilly winds beneath dark blank skies. Back when virgin ears were new to detecting lies. Honestly, I tried… To stay pure where pollutants were produced… But I swam in the waters of life to find allusive truths. Way back when, the winds of change blew due north… Hot, as if blown over flame open Consuming air, leaving us fighting for more than tokens. This life…I live it… My life’s a privilege Started by those that died trying to defend it, Took a rule and bent it To make life better for their descendents. They are the Kinetics behind the movement… Faces bearing the sentiments… and mechanics inside the instruments Setting the tone for the soundtrack of a struggle. I walk tall after the fall and rise of those refusing to allow a stumble To stop the race. They had to keep pace… If they…planned To make it to that destined place Like My ancestors strove long to light the fire you see in me.
