The Calm Before the Storm

The Calm Before the Storm

A Poem by Silver
"

A nature poem about the still moment of silence before something big happens.

"

The Earth inhales,

As the wind goes still.

Not a single cricket dares to make a sound.

There is no rustling of the leaves,

Or squirrels playing in the trees.

I do not hear the pitter patter

Of little feet

Running across the ground.

Even the bubbling brook

Has ceased its cheerful babble,

Just as the birds have paused their song.

Nature has stopped in her tracks,

And it's almost as if no creature is breathing

Except me and the Earth.

I revile in the deafening silence,

And then,

The Earth exhales.
