Empty roadA Story by MarkJust a short story idea. Might mix this with another short story I was writing.
Pulled off to the side of the road, he gazed out to the horizon from his old Chevy convertible. This road he was on was straight as far as his eyes could see. Nothing moved as the road hugged the rolling hills. He glanced in his rear view. Again it was empty; Nothing followed. He didn't know how far he had come, nor how far he had left to go.
On the radio was a faint... song he remembered from long ago. He closed his eyes and pointed his face to the heavens. The sun light would duck in and out from the slow moving clouds. With his eyes closed, he took a long breath in. He didn't know his destination, but he knew this wasn't it. He opened his eyes again to the road before him. He hit his blinker, glanced to the side view mirror and gently put the car in drive. Once again he was back on the road. Once again he had miles to go before he could rest... © 2016 MarkAuthor's Note
