Imagine

Imagine

A Poem by Brandon
"

Me imagining a different type of world

"

Imagine a world where
2Pac and B.I.G. bee-boxed
Understanding true hip hop
Ignoring east and west coast talks
Because they realized that words
Breed life, so they lived and never died

Imagine a time when
Muhammed and Jesus hoop-scotched
Knowing that they both came from one High God
Because Jacob was brothers with Esau
So it doesn't really matter if
You call him Jehovah and I praise Allah

Imagine a reason why
Amadu Dialo would chill with white cops
Because 41 bullets being shot
Wasn't even a passing afterthought
No reason for profiling to exist
Because there were never any racist

Imagine a dream
The same dream of a King
Who was shot for what he believed
Who was murdered for having courage to speak
Who was spit on, kicked, hosed down and beat
For having the audacity to dream for me

Now Imagine. Only imagine the dream
Because actually dreaming
Would be considered crazy
Because when the masses
Scream: F**k you, pay me!
And we have children
Abandoned as babies, and
The death rate is increasing daily, and
Countless n****s still in slavery
Maybe it's just me, but
It seems naive to dare to dream

So I only imagine
I imagine about dreaming
And picture myself peacefully sleeping
Until I violently wake up, screaming
Because little devils on my shoulders are scheming
Replacing my dellusions with nightmares
Ripping my fantasy to pieces, until
It hits me like a cold shower,
Showering me with reality

So I lay awake, and imagine
Imagine a world with salvation from a higher power
Imagine a world were innocent men aren't devoured
Imagine a world that's anything but ours

wow. This is so good! "For having the audacity to dream for me" That stanza is my favorite, but I also love what follows- " Maybe it's just me, but/It seems naive to dare to dream". What would happen if there was no racism? Would that mean that we would never notice our differences? Because that could be dangerous, too. I wish you had gone into a little more depth there. Your last line wraps everything up perfectly. thank you! :)

This was a wonderful work of art, that you have painted upon the worded canvas! You show us the way things aught to be and i agree with the feeling of the poem! I think that we as a race have really messed up the softer and more compassionate way of life that could have and perhaps still can with effort, that we should have had along time ago.
Great Write!
You express your feelings on this vividly and in detail! Kudos! :)
