YouA Poem by BrandonThe destruction and recreation on the world
For thirty years I cried
And on the thirty first
God’s promise
Was Proved to be a lie,
For every mountaintop and hillside
Was flooded with flowing tears
That fell from my eyes
I gathered up all I knew
And decided to rebuild
The world anew. 2 by 2
I gathered hate and envy
Arrogance and deceit
Lust and laziness
Fear and greed
And a submissive wife
To pair along with me
We repopulated the world, 2 by 2
And out of our incest
We created You and You
Building separate kingdoms
Divided by shifting sands
You and You competed
To build cities more grand
You and You fought.
And You and You died.
But then came their sons.
There names were You (Too)
With each one trying to do
What their fathers failed to
But both were equal
In every single way
And both You (Too’s) died
Died in their father’s name
And so came You Three’s
Who did the same things
After You Three’s, came
The 4s and 5s and 6s
They all killed each other
With the same strong conviction
Eventually all was dead
In the bloodline of the You’s
But then came the rise of
Him, He, Me and Me (Too’s)
They followed the precedent
Left by their predecessors
And invented more ways
To kill each other better
They built more kingdoms
In the expanding sands
And died to claim from each other
More blood soaked lands
They fought and fought and fought
Until none was left alive
The sad story man is
The blessings of a cursed life
A tale told by my father
Passed from Me to You to You
The history of our people
You must now pass on too
