Unwanted Blessing

Unwanted Blessing

A Poem by BeautifulPoison

In a hospital bed , a young woman lies
As pieces of her soul slowly die
Today, her baby was supposed to be born
Suddenly, the death angels blew their horns
In a distant memory, she sees her baby's face turn blue
Doctors rush him from the room
Leaving her without a clue
Hours pass
The doctor returns and says: "I tried my best"
The woman learns the baby she would have called Zachary is now at eternal rest
Early on , she treated her pregnancy as a curse
Or like a stain that had ruined her favorite designer purse
The gift she took for granted was ripped away
Through the nursery window, she watches the other babies babble and coo
She cries out loudly
Silently she wishes she could bring him back
