Right and WrongA Story by Aetheria Gale
What is right? What is wrong?
The answer is something we'll probably never truly know. Right and wrong is something we're taught as children, right? But what if our teacher's vision of right and wrong was flawed? Chances are, what's an obvious moral choice for me is something you would never even consider. Think on those who are abused, but never realize it, they don't know that what they experienced isn't right. Especially if they were children while the abuse happened. How are they meant to know what is actually correct? Our moral compasses are not going to point to true north, because there isn't such a thing. I may be a hero to some, but I may be a villain to others. I cannot please everybody, and there will always be somebody who thinks I'm in the wrong. Right and wrong are not black and white. There are millions of shades in between. Why might somebody murder a person? Maybe it wasn't in cold blood, but rather because the person they murdered was going to kill them. Is that wrong because it's murder? Is it right because it's self defense? There are many answers you might get depending on who you ask. Think on the trolley problem. Are those five people's lives worth one person's life? What if those five people are murderers, abusers, r*pists? Now are their lives worth that one person's? What if that one person is, say, somebody who does good by everybody, and always tries their best to be their best? Is their life now worth more than the lives of five? We'll never truly know, because everybody will always have a different answer. Right and wrong are ideas based entirely on perspective, and we know perspective is biased based on experience and many other things. I think there is no true right or wrong. There is not true good or bad. There's no true black or white, just the millions and millions of grey shades in between. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right about this. I think I'm right, but the real question is: Do you?
