Eve’s Reflection

She’s the first of womankind.

Eve and Adam make a pair.

She’s the mirror of my mind. 

This reflection makes me stare

at the beauty that I find

in her eyes and raven hair.

 

Through Creation I'm inclined

to be truly self-aware.

 

There’s that Snake I left behind

who now slithers in his lair,

he was once so well defined,

now he engineers a snare.

 

Using fruit devoid of rind,

this snake charms her with a dare,

one that tangles with its  bind

visions once beyond compare.

 

She’s about to feel the grind

of her world in disrepair,

a stark Garden of the Blind

where her shine is less than fair

Oh wow, this is a great poem! I had to read it aloud to really get the feel and rhythm down...then I had to do it again because the flow was just that awesome! The idea of the creator's reflection in Eve and in the serpent a very interesting concept... I enjoyed this... well done.

Thanks for your detailed review, K! There are a thousand ways to interpret Genesis. I could rewrite the entire Bible in rhyme, but it would take me the rest of my life, and I have other fish to fry.

wow, this is a really good profile of the first woman and her downfall...

when our egos get too big, we take quite a risk...and often the doors will close behind us.

Thanks for your detailed review, jacob! This poem is two poems in one: The first is about the Creator's reflection within the mirror ( Eve ) of his mind, and the second is about the fallen snake who once was that mirror instead.

yes, i saw the two stories in one...but also the other meanings too...poetry has so much in between the lines.

A poem is an introspective mind mirror. When a mind reflects upon itself it becomes two reflecting upon each other in an act of self-awareness. Existence has no purpose unless we're aware that we exist through the reflection of an Other within the One. Mind needs this survival trait to prevent its self-destruction. Feedback and correction make most of our modern technology possible. When I was in school I would scare my teachers with the abstract content of my mind, and my spunge memory.
