Chipmunk Love

 

Chipmunks only watch and wait

on the ground or in a tree.

They may only change the fate

of an acorn falling free.

 

Chipmunks don’t need to debate

the Sum of Reality,

or engender war, and hate

over its Totality.

 

Chipmunks don’t care if you’re great.

Wealth is their absurdity,

but they mate at any rate

as they chirp in harmony.

 

Someday if it’s not too late,

we’ll gain their benignity,

but if not, then we’ll negate

our right to ascendancy.

No, a chorus of them starts singing outside my window every morning at sunrise. Sometimes I place some grain and nuts out for them just to see them play about the food. They fun to watch in the Fall when they gather acorns from under my oak trees.

That is really cool. Wish I could watch them play. All we get here are birds and cats in the city. And even in the country, the kangaroos just lie around and doze in the sun. No playing here. :(

Simple minded creatures sometimes live their lives at the fullest when they have their priorities and focus in order and right perspective. Perhaps there is a direct link of how they live the way an ants conducts their business ...

Thanks for your review, Neil! There are most likely super-intelligent alien beings in our galaxy who consider us to be simple minded creatures who conduct our business as ants do. To them, we’d just be a swarm of tiny nits clutching a wet rock afloat in the dark abyss. I’m sure that our egocentric nature would amuse them to no end.

Thanks for reviewing my chipmunk poem! It takes a complex mind to discover simplicity. E = MC**2: It took human beings thousands of years to discover this simple equation. Before then, all they had were millions of connected words signifying nothing, but hoping for everything, just so much wishful thinking. People are fooled into thinking that the more complex an explanation is the truer it is. Occam’s razor rules!
