A beautiful light hearted poem with a very serious message! There is a lot of rat-a-tat-tat-a-tat
going on in everyday living which Nature is finding hard to disperse.

Thanks for your review, Astri! We're wrecking our natural environment with all this rat-a-tat.

If poets 'la la la' in the best possible way perhaps we may be able to counter the rat-a-tat!
Very well written and fun to read. Until recently I lived in a wooded area, observed the creatures you mentioned regularly, and greatly enjoyed the serenity of living among the trees. (Not too fond of the leaf raking, though.) Richard

The poor birds lose their homes as people do with floods and fire etc...of course the newspapers still need to print the news...even though i only read it on the internet now...enjoyed...Rose

i like the play on "rat" the rats and the ratatat of the guns as we shoot each other...
but i also see another meaning here...trees give us paper on which to write....but we seldom do that anymore...we don't write letters, we seldom write anything long hand on what was giving by the trees...now it is the rat-atat-tat-tat of the keys as we type away on our computers.
nice double meaning here...
one of my favorites i've read in sometime.

Now that we have paperless writing we need those trees all the less. Perhaps the rat-atat-tat-tat of keys shall communicate enough good will around the world to stop the rat-atat-tat-tat of firearms?
And this is "progress"???
Perhaps I misunderstood the word...
Very astute poem, indeed...

Every night when we watch the evening news we get some idea as to how far our species has devolved from the Paragon that it once was before being cast from that fabled Garden of fruited trees, and sly snakes.
