Interesting idea here...where you turn the "raven" into something both "dark and cheery". Quite a creative write that employs a nice flow and feel. I also like the references to Dresden...and interesting concept. You always keep me coming back for more with your work. Well done.

Thanks, Sarah! This raven was cheery about the certain demise of the Furrer.
So few words that send the mind in many directions. The image of the raven hiding in the shelter as a backdrop to the horror of Dresden. You also give an insight as to what may have been going through the minds of the people in those shelters, no doubt longing for and end to it all.
Great write, reads well.

This poem would never have been written without the motivation and rules of the contest. All I did was put myself in another person's shoes who would have experienced a 'Nevermore' event in the past. Also those British bombers looked somewhat like black war birds, or shadows of death and 'Nevermores'.
I felt in a war-zone, Egypt, on daily news... (right now), still your imagination brings, me back to
Poe's best poem, and his darker visons, of truly being analytic, and bring home even the ravens to his musings... to analize carefully, home, and found on a precious moment... Annabel Lee in his mind....
They were merged, in to one, piece of merging air, to create a world of dark poetry.
(Or you were...) being creative, using a several aspects of history, merged with your own... (mind)...
I like the "Word" Furrer... maybe it is derived from leader? as the "Germans say: "Führer" even linked to Dresden, a place in Germany... not that Poe was in "Hitlers" area of time, being from 1809, till fourty years later, when he died, pity enough.. and was released out of his burden... but for my imagination so nicely combined here. Loved this piece, into my library... :)
- Key words which did confuse me, Dresden, German place,
- Führer / German for leader, like Adolf Hitler was...
- Your title... "Dresden's Midnight Raven" can you explain me? :D would be grateful
Maybe I'm missing something... :) Nevermore is righteous through... :)

Dresden was turned to ash on February 14, Ash Wednesday, during an evening raid on the center of the city. The bombers where dark ravens of war invading what were thought of as safe havens as they dropped their dreadful 'Nevermores'.
