Summer Solstice

This is a poem about the Summer Solstice inspired by Shakespear's Sonnet 18.

Summer Solstice

 

What may I compare

with this longest day

as her thermal air

shakes the buds of May?

 

She climbs from her lair

as her rays array

causing dew to flare

melting grays away.

 

Now's her time to share

while she's here to stay.

Fair shall stray from fair

as shades dim her sway.

 

Death shall never snare

her eternal play.

Earth shall tilt with care

coming back this way.

Very good, this part of the poem "melting grays away." sounds like she put a spell on them and their hair is turning gray.

Thanks, SquinklaPsyOps! The gray of evening gives way to daylight. It's like a spell in a way. Light throws a spell over everything that once was Night. Light defeats Night!

They are recorded in a far away place, for when they pass away they will be reminded their tunnel with failures was arrested many times from them insisting in life and that is the evidence for the guards that down there.

You have quite an imagination. Now we seem to be personifying the shades of evening. I doubt that anyone has done that before. These shades shall return after Gaea pirouettes into evening as Apollo rides his chariot below the skyline's rim at the edge of the wind dark sea.

This was quite beautiful, and I see the references to Shakespeare's work. The feel and flow of this one was great; nice rhyme scheme that worked well with this very "classical" feeling piece. You have a certain sublime vibe to your writing, and I really like that. Nicely done.

This is short, but so is Shakespeare's Sonnet 18 which inspired it. A poem isn't an essay, a short story, or a novel. If I make it longer, then all I'm doing is adding more poems about the Summer Solstice to it. An epic poem is just an array of small poems knitted together by a common theme. Hundred thousand word books or epic poems could be written about the Summer Solstice.
