For A Friend

For A Friend

A Poem by Amanda

I find that as I lie here on my bed
Admonishing myself for what I’ve thought
About the one whose love I’ve long times sought,
The love I feel for you cannot be said.
The lonely tear that from my eye is shed
To prove the pain with which my heart is wrought
Cannot expose how I feel so distraught
And by my yearning show how I have pled.
But in throughout my anguish I have seen
This love surpassed by nothing in the world
That ever was or will be yet foreseen
In any place, be earth or water swirled.
Before I allocate my heart to you,
I must be certain that you love me, too.

A modified-Petrarchan sonnet that I wrote a little over a year ago...I'm always experimenting with sonnet forms.
