The Garden at Night

The Garden at Night

A Poem by Amanda

Among the scented lilies,
The air flows sweet around;
The filtering light
Gives way to night,
And stars shine o’er the ground.

As darkness comes with shadows,
The candlelight glimmers nigh;
And while the breeze
Slips through the trees,
The stars hang in the sky.

The birds have now gone silent,
The bluebells seem to ring;
The sun’s last rays
Bring close of day,
And stars begin to sing.

I watch them from the window,
And softly give a sigh;
For though I see
Them in the lea,
I know some day they’ll die.

Author's Note

Amanda
One of my earlier poems, from when I was twelve. I still like the feeling of serenity and beauty that it evokes in me when I read it, even though the meter is not perfect.

Like a light at the end of the tunnel, this poem evokes a sense of well being and hope for the future and better times.
I enjoy your imagery here, it shines brightly on the page and cast's it's glow into the hearts of the reader.

I takes into the effect of cycles, how everything eventually goes away, to be reborn again.

Great Write!

Very well-written. It has a beautiful and steady flow to it - soothing. The rhyming scheme is also well done. Your descriptions do a good job of creating a picture and the last line, it really pulls together the whole thing, in a reflective tying-up sense. =))
