Helpless me.A Story by AdrianaEckhart20-Story I wrote back in high school, critics?“Please, tell me what you want I’ll do anything..pllleassse let me go!” I’m screaming from the top of my lungs wishing there were someone in the distance to hear me from this bridge. I just wanted a break, to get away for camping and I land up with screaming for my life, not knowing if I'm gonna live. “She’s got a mouth on her don’t she?” says one with the hat. “I think she’ll like to go for a swim, don’t you guys think?” another says. Three men are circling me like a pack of wolves ready to attack on their prey, and I'm the helpless deer. “Please,” I cry, “anything, I’ll do anything.” “I guess, we can spare you, but I think she wants to go for a swim,” says one with the knife stiffly in his hand. The last scent that I smell is beer from their clothes, as if they visited the cabin without me knowing. The next thing I know, I'm falling fifty-feet in the air. BAM! I hit rock bottom and my body lies lifeless as my blood spreads black liquid into the water, as if the red Nile had turned black. [Three weeks later-Delilah] “Come on Jess, lets go camping, please?” “Fine Delilah, I guess we can go, but only because I love you,” Jess manages to say, even though I know he doesn't want to go. “Eva, Jacklynn, Max,and Jeremy are going too, so we wont be alone.” “Great,” Jess says sarcastically. It’s Friday and time for our camping trip, and it just so happens to be five hours out of town. I’m looking out the window seeing nothing but trees in every spot as we drive down the little path-ed maze. I look and see our cabin, about a mile away as the trees are surrounding the huge cabin while a blanket of dead grass feels in the spaces. “This is where were staying?” Jeremy says in discuss. “Uh kinda, but its not that bad, I mean were away aren't we?” Getting out of the car, we all run to the door. “Lets take a picture to show we actually made it and send and have proof for the future,” says Jacklynn. We all stop to smile our fake smiles, to show how much of a great time were having. “Great, okay so here we go, when this door is open run to find your room,” said Jacklynn. Everyone raced in the house, with their with their unhealthy snacks and pillows just to leave their marks in what room they get. As I walked around examining this lost cabin I notice there has been so much activity in this building. Then i began to think, was there a party here last? I see a shirt thrown in the bush, along with cups laying around the back and bottom of the cabin and a box is dug into the ground and half of it is out. Someone must have buried it, as I take one small step at a time I get closer and closer...and..“Come inside Delilah, you can share a room with Jess across the hall,” Eva says well opening the white unpainted cabin pane. “Okay,” I manage to say with a curious look upon my face as I leave that mystery box unsolved. I begin to walk around the house, and push opened the old creaking door. I took a step in, looking at the wooded cabin finding my room on the farthest left of the house, down the hall from Eva and Jeremy. “Where have you been?” Jess asked, as I walk into the room.“I was strolling along the house, you know just checking out my stay.” Heading to the kitchen I find to my amazement we don't have to go grocery shopping now, since our kitchen seems to be full of snacks. Our kitchen is full of cookies, chips, soda, and our re-fridgorator with beer, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and bread. “LET’S GO, LETS GO TO THE SPILLWAY!” Max yells through the cabin, ad we all take our heads of the food. We all run out to the car fighting for spots, with Jess and I in the middle, Max and Jacklynn in the front, and Eva and Jeremy in the back. Pulling up next to a hillside, we all walk down carefully holding on to each other we reach a bridge and throw our towels and bags to the floor. The bridge had rusted train rails running through the middle, and whetted wood, that creaked with every step surrounding it. Over the bridge lied rushing water stampeding over each wave ripple, as it headed down stream. “Anyone willing to get in with me?” said Max.“Meee!!” Everyone yelled throwing their clothes off and everyone swimsuits shining bright colors.“Don’t jump in though, its to rocky, walk around and get in okay?”I say as if i were the chaperon. Everyone rushed to the end of the bridge, slowly tip-toeing down the mountain to the water. “Brrrrr....,” Eva said, “Its freezing.”“Well no one said it was gonna be warm,” Jacklynn said back with a hint of attitude.“Come get in Jess and Delilah, come have some fun on this weekend, we all need it!” Max pointing out the obvious of this trip. As Jess and I made our way into the chilled water, we all decided to take an adventure. “Lets head down stream, and see what we find,” Max said. We began heading down the rushing water as it swiveled by our legs, as white ripples folded into clear water. Big and little rocks were covered in slimy green moss, as we slipped on each one, as if it were a death wish. As we got farther down the stream, bushes were all piled in one area as broken washed away limbs, chipped away leaves, and mud gathered around to form a little fort. This part of the woods is a bit darkened with green leaves hovering over the tops of many tree trunks, as broken logs lay dead on the cold muddy ground. “Where are we going Max?” Jacklynn replied with a hint of nervousness and wimpy shaking voice. “On an adventure, were just going down stream don’t worry guys will be fine,” Max spilled out as if its been his one-hundredth time in these woods. Heading farther and farther into the shadows we all became more and more upset to where this was gonna take us. “ I need a break, this water is freezing, and I’m already worn out,” I say with exhaustion. Everyone sits down on each on the side of the stream shaking the water off their feet as they fell like raindrops. The next moment, were all about to climb up when Eva yells, “Whats that in the water?” We all stop instantly and eye the pale white figure hiding in the bushes. “What is it?” Jess asks, “ I don't know,” Max replied. Max stealthy moves towards the bush and freezes like a statue. Rushing to Max, we all look down to notice not just a pale cold body, but Max's’ ex girl-friend laying in the bushes. “Get her out!!” yelled Max as his voices became shaky. Grabbing the frozen body, I notice in my hands a dead corpse and my fingerprints were all over it. Max runs over fast trying to give her CPR, when the truth is his mind has gone completely ballistic and doesn't realize the lifeless body beneath his hands. “We need to get help NOW!” Max is screaming with tears rolling off his cheeks. “We can’t Max, our fingerprints all over her we will be blamed!” I”m yelling with nervousness inside my voice. “Why is Jena in the woods anyway?” Jeremy is saying as he shakes to hold the tears. “All I remember hearing from Jena, was that she was going out of town for a party,” Max is saying in between each S.P.R. breath. “She’s dead!” Jacklynn is screaming. “We can’t just leave her, but we can’t be blamed,” Eva is pacing back in forth. “We have to get out of here, we can’t have this on our record,” Jess says pulling me away. We’re all trying to pull Max away, and its like he is glued. “We have to leave Delilah, come on Jeremy, Eva, and Jacklynn we have to go,” Jess is trying leading everyone out of this situation. Reaching the bridge, we pick up all of our belongings and run making our way to the car. Jeremy, Eva, Jacklynn, Jess, and I are back to the car when we notice Max was the one driving. “Come on, we’ll walk back if we have too,” says Jess. “I’m going back for Max, I’m not leaving him like this,” says Jacklynn running down back down the hill, off the bridge, and down the unbeatable stream. “Jacklynn come back,” Eva is screaming from the top of her lungs. Jess is tugging my arm, as well as Jeremy is tugging Eva’s, “Let’s go!” says Jess. Were all running down the un-motioned road, as were all wheezing with every short breathe taken from shock, and running away from death. [Jacklynn] “Max!! MAX! Where are you?” I'm yelling from the top of my lungs. The night shades darker, and darker every minute. I’m back in the cold river, when I reach the one spot I couldn’t forget and Max and Jena are no where to be found. Turning in circles, I see nothing but dark shadows, and the big fuzzed out objects.”Max, Max where are you?” I begin to yell out as tears roll down my cheek. [Delilah] We’re running and running farther down the road but it just seems like were running in circles. The sun is no where to be found, and the half moon is barely leading us. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!” We all turn around and notice the scream in the distance. Our bodies all stiffen and were frozen solid. “What was that?” Eva cried rolling into Jeremy’s arms. “I don't know Eva, don't worry everything is gonna be okay,” he lies. Jess is tugging on my arm,” Come one Delilah, we need to move.” Eva and I are both crying a river and shaking as chills run up my back. “I can’t run anymore,” Eva says crunching over coughing her lungs out, “I can’t.” “We can’t stop Eva, we need to move!” Jess is saying as I notice he is beginning to worry. “I’ll stay just go, we’ll catch up to you guys later,” Jeremy says softly as he is holding Eva. Jess tugs me as we begin running more, and more, and more. I can barely see a thing, and yet Jess hasn’t hit a thing. Then in the distance we hear a screeching sound of screaming. Helps are tossed in the distance, and then nothing but silence feels the air. Then we Jess and I begin to run faster and faster and we finally reach the cabin. The kitchen still has the refreshments on the table as we run to lock all the windows and doors. “Wait,” I yell, whats in the box?” I run to Eva’s room open the window, and climb out digging up the box. My hands now dirty as I throw it back into the room and open the box. There are pictures of girls and there friends, six people all in front of this cabin. I find out picture, and Jenna is standing next to the boy Jeff, from my sixth hour biology class, along with, Tracy, Tom, Billy, and Lucy. My eyes widen and my hand is shaking with terror, I hold it up and see the picture we took earlier when we first got here. “Jess! Oh my Gosh Jess!” I’m screaming in complete terror, “ Someone knows were here!” I look in everyone to find Jess no where. “Jess?” I’m Shaking with tears pouring from my eyes. I look inside the bathroom tub and notice Jess in a tub red, liquidity blood. His body lifeless inside this tub, when he was not even five-hours ago ready to have a great time. I turn to the mirror and notice not my body, but Jenna bloody pointing to the living room. Walking into the living room, nervously shaking, and turn to my window. I see three men outside, one with a white hat, one in a black hoodie, and one pointing a knife right at me. © 2015 AdrianaEckhart20Author's Note
