Ephemeral SunA Poem by Adownupadownup
There once was a town
where no one ever smiled Where light was sparse and brown and the vegetation grew wild where eternal darkness loomed and the inhabitants were doomed where the sun never came up, no, not even once and hope is just pure happenstance red embers covered the land's breadth as long as the darkness took it's heavy breaths Far away from civilization where evil staked this part of God's creation The sound of damned souls wailing in the air Were surely too much for any one man to bare. Sent here by the red man's hands The dead are slaves to these accursed lands. But every now and again, some have spoke A sun would rise, and the darkness would choke A strange man muttered in his deadpan voice "For all of you that has suffered," "Pay heed to my words, rejoice!!" The souls looked on in awe, their skeletons crackling, At the words that flowed from the man's maw and his cheerful cackling "For the time has arisen" "And although you cannot run" "I believe it is an occasional season, "but it's time, for the Ephemeral Sun." The damned ones hearts fluttered, for it was once again time for them to see thanks to the man's simple elegy they would be allowed to feel glee. But it isn't called ephemeral for no simple reason at the end of the night, the darkness would deepen The Ephemeral sun gone now but not forgotten eagerly awaited sometime next Autumn. © 2013 Adownupadownup |
