 “She Moves On”

In the stillness of questioning your past lovers hurt,

What do you believe they think of you now?

Were all those moments once treasured now just painful memories

Of times they’ll never get back?

Whose fault was it that things all came crashing down

And those “I love you’s” turned into “I wish I never knew you”?

Does it even matter now,

Now that you are smiling

Now that you are laughing,

Now that all those past experiences have molded you and shaped you into something stronger?

Your head is held high and your hand is entwined

With the next Mr. Perfect that you can see no fault in.

In those times when you remember,

A quirk or a quip from some long forgotten lips,

Do you cherish what you have now and pray it never ends

Or are you just fighting to make sure its not your doing

That this thing comes undone and another memory breaks your heart?

In the dying of Winter your past lovers wander,

And you’ve left them no map

To find their way back out and you try to hide your smirk,

Reveling that you’ve made such an impact.

Your lips whisper new “I love you’s”

Wondering where it will all lead;

Another broken love life, one more night of sobbing

Then on to the next because you’ve got to find the right Mr. Right

To help you forget the last.

This was a telling confession of a many-broken heart... How wonderful are those moments of discovery and elation when we find attraction in another... How draining to time of disillusionment and despair, the working over of memories, the reliving of cherished moments, the anger and rejection.

But, as you so rightly reflect, 'better to have loved and lost than not have loved at all'. The challenge of the future and the excitement of the novel helps us to live with the past and to bring its experience into hopes of the future.
