Dirty Concrete and Bloody FacesA Story by Adler_ThomasJust a scene I thought ofRun
faster! My brain screamed. My heart
thudded wildly fast inside my chest. The
strange looks that followed me as I pushed past people on the crowded sidewalk
told me I looked wild. I had to run
faster. The men in suits where so close
I could feel them breathing down my neck.
Another flash of hot pain crippled
me and brought me to the ground. What is
happening to me? I spotted a dark alley
not too far. I painfully pulled myself
from the dirty sidewalk leaving bloodstains behind. I ran again to only fling myself into the
alley. I rolled on my back and looked at
the full moon. Only a week ago, I was being named
Homecoming Queen and now I was lying in a puddle of my own blood, on the dirty
concrete of a dark alley, and running from the men in suits. How I wish I were
back in the comfort of my old life.
Tears began to run down my bloody, dirt filled face. More hot, rushing pain rolled
through my body but I was too tired to care.
Heavy footsteps entered the alley.
I leaped from my state of self-pity to take off again. BANG! A barbed net wrapped around me
knocking me to the ground. I was
trapped. I was done. I was going to die tonight. The heavy footsteps casually walked to my
weak body. The men in suits had caught
me. “This is Bravo. We have contained Tigress” the man spoke into
his earpiece. I let out a low
laugh. That is what they called me?
Tigress? I was humored in this dark time.
“What are you laughing at?” Another man scolded. I was then met with a foot to my face. The barbs from the net embedded themselves
deeper into my face. Images swam as I
saw stars. THUD! The ground shook a bit. I twisted my body the best I could. He was here.
His dark demon wings stretched out behind him. He looked down at my sad excuse of a body and
his beautiful face twist into pain. I
met his golden eyes and he felt the torment I was in. With a roar, I felt his distress and torture. He tore the suited man closest to him clean
in two. Slinging the carnage to the side,
he easily ripped apart the squad of suited men.
I dipped in and out of unconsciousness wishing I could help. The barbed net was lifted off of me
taking some of my skin with it. Strong,
warm arms wrapped around me and cradled me to his chest. His alluring dark wings spread wide sending
us into the night air. The city lights
blinked under us. It was amazing how
they looked from up here. My head rolled
as a weight of death pushed against me. “Please don't die. I should of never of left you. You are everything to me. Please don’t die. Please God don’t take her soul. I love you.
I love you, Elisa. I loved you
the first day I saw you. Please don’t leave me. Please don’t. I love you, Elisa.” My heavy head fell back and the darkness took over
me. “I love you,” echoed in my head.
Funny, I never heard a demon say that before. © 2016 Adler_ThomasFeatured Review
