His Lament

His Lament

A Poem by Adamas
"

Another shot at a poem thing...inspired by my thoughts of Daisy from The Great Gatsby.

"

I can't see your dream's.
They are far below me,
Yet you chain me to your gravity.
The pressure tears me asunder.

Did it not occur to you,
no matter how high you set me,
I may still fall?

I imagine that in freefall,
I will be frozen by a thought.
"How will I find myself, again,
after the fall?"

Inside, I sigh, and I feel
myself burn.
The crown you placed
upon my head
will only drag me down.

On a pedestal is a lonely place to be and the only natural place to go is down. Added weight only ensures that the fall is that much harder, and the recovery unlikely. It's dangerous at that height and your protagonist realizes that instantly. This is really an interesting poem with opening lines that pull your reader into it. Poetry does not have to be long to be satisfying and this one is. The topic is explored just long enough to make an impact, but not long enough to get old. This is a job well done.
