A Poem by Adam, the Grub Street Lodger
"

Finding Yourself - on public transport.

"

Some people try to find themselves by going to India

but I found myself on the bus and I didn’t go that far.

And if it’s India you want, jump on the 44

Find yourself in Tooting, and it’s India galore.

Or if it is Jamaica, the 18 is your ride

Enjoy the local dialect and jerk-chicken your insides.

But no, I want some Jewish stuff, leap onto bus 13

Enjoy your bagels and wide hats in the shops of Golder’s Green.

Media types, try Soho and boxers Old Kent Road

Or mosey on to Temple where lawyers all are stowed.

If it is for dusty, musty books that you seek

Slouch away to Bloomsbury any day of the week.

Eight million sods are crammed into this tiny place

But all of those who’ve been here long, can navigate that space.

Some people travel the whole globe and chart the wonders they see

But I prefer to ride the bus and let the wonders come to me.

Cheaper too.
"Though our paths are different we breathe the same gritty sky." I get what you mean with this line but it doesn't seem worded right! "sky" seems like the wrong word but I can appreciate that without it, the rhyme would go off.

Otherwise, nice piece. The ending is a great way to close the piece and you utilise rhythm pretty well.

The 'I' 'sky' couplet being the deviation I mean, not the end.

I feel the piece would be stronger without the "I" "sky" couplet. It kind of sticks out because befo.. read more
