My Place in the Universe

My Place in the Universe

A Chapter by Adam, the Grub Street Lodger

It was about 13.7 billion years since the point of potential exploded and sent unfathomable amounts of molecules in all directions, 8.9 billion years since some of the molecules cooled into a solid ball, 600 million years since some of those molecules became living organisms, 400 million years since some of those organisms learnt to walk and 2 million years since some of them developed a conscious life...about 790 thousand years since they taught themselves to make fire, 6 thousand years since they built the first towns, 4 thousand years since they could cross the sea and 200 hundred years since they could cross the air…about 22 years since I was born, 1 year since my granny died, 1 month since I got a job, 1 week since I caught a cold, 1 day since I went to went to work and several hours since I went to bed...that my alarm went off and I woke up.
