Cat Tales #10: Cages, a Shadow, and the Rare Cute Human

A Story by Adam Greenfield
"

Stella is one sneaky cat. She wrote this in a 40 minute window while I stepped out to get food on the second night of the move.

Entry #10: Cages, a Shadow, and the Rare Cute Human

Ok, I don’t think we’re going back. What I mean is that it has been a while since we’ve been back to where we used to live. Now we’re back in those damn boxes in the hellish moving and shaking contraption. We stop for a little while in a new place each time and sometimes we’re let out of the box but other times we’re left there for a little bit then we start moving again. Right now Two Legs and his friend, who will now be known as The Tall Guy, have gone somewhere and left Alo and I to explore this new surrounding. I have no idea how long we’re going to be here so I don’t plan on getting too familiar with it. Plus, I don’t know how long Two Legs and The Tall Guy will be gone so I may have to cut this short.

(Poster’s Note: Just a quick update, this must’ve been written while my friend and I left the hotel room to get dinner. We were staying in a hotel in Flagstaff, Arizona and it was the end of the second day of the drive from St. Louis to San Diego.)

But I digress. Alo and I were getting pretty damn comfortable with where we were. It wasn’t the original dwelling place but this one had stairs and things. It was very fun to run up and down those things. One night after all the Uprighters-

(Poster’s Note: That’s Stella-speak for humans.)

-went to sleep, we sat up and chatted about the new digs. We decided that we were happy with it and could really see ourselves living there. In other words, it had our approval. But once again, we’re back to being caged and transported to Cat knows where.

Before I finish this entry, I want to tell you about a little excursion we had just before we ended up here. First, we spent the night in a tiny room after riding in the box for an extended amount of time. After Alo and I were put back in our traps, we rode for a little bit then stopped, only to be removed and taken in to a tiny room with a stranger’s bathbox. Alo and I looked around and then, out of nowhere, another feline appeared.

He walked in the room and inspected a little. First he sniffed me out, then looked at Alo but Alo must’ve looked back at him weird because this other cat started backing away. That’s when Two Legs walked in and said something about being introduced to Shadow, which must’ve been the other cat’s name. Seeing that he was mostly black like me, it made sense. So Two Legs whisked Shadow away and after a little while longer, we were placed back in our boxes. We then were placed outside.

It was very bright and warm where we were. Then a mini-Uprighter came over and stuck some fingers in the holes of the door to my cage. I sniffed them, she giggled, then climbed on top of my cage to lay down. I was told her name was Kay and must admit, she was as cute as I am, which is saying a lot since she’s an Uprighter. After a little while of this, Alo and I were put back in the moving thing and that brings us to right now.

Well, I should probably get off this thing before Two Legs gets back. I hope we end up somewhere cool. I’m really tired of moving around a lot. Until then, I leave you with my favorite definition of what cats really are.

The antics of Stella only get better as the move progresses. I love all the cute little names she has for humans and their things. And her quotes at the end of each story are great too.
I'd love to see these short entries put together in a book. "Cat Tails: The Secret Life and Times Of Stella and Alo"
