TsunamiA Poem by Adam McWhorterA love poem for Nick; whose love was never a calm sea, but violent ocean.Your hair is much longer than it was the last time I saw you. But your eyes are exactly the same - Soul piercing windowpanes, framed by dark eyelashes. Wave-less sea of iced milk expansive and unchanging. Featureless gulf of white that separates pink corners. Crystalline iris " A vortex swirling. Force ten hurricane crashing into me. Deep brown tsunami. It breaks me down and drags me - Helplessly out to sea. You " You were never ripples in a stream in which to swim in deep. You " You were a throbbing ocean, a tidal wave to be the death of me. Your beauty, so immense . . . Within such depths, I cannot breathe. Your hair " Your hair is much longer than it was the last time I saw you. But those eyes " your eyes are exactly the same. Hauntingly familiar. They pull me in. And as I look into them now, I see the specter of myself reflected " starring back at me. © 2010 Adam McWhorter |
