Rayne awoke with a start. Her heart was pounding in her ears and giving her a killer headache. How many times was she going to dream of her own death? It was past. It wasn’t going to happen again. Screaming. Burning. Angry yelling. She could remember it all. Her body felt like it was in flames, so she threw the covers off. She decided she’d check her phone. Nothing. Frowning, she decided to get up. It was Friday, so she had a few minutes to herself before her parents got home. Before she walked out of the room, she picked up her phone and texted Mike “Morning, my Dark Prince. I love you.”
She sighed to herself as she grabbed the hairbrush and began brushing through the tangles. Her phone started buzzing. “Love you too.” she smirked. Later on that morning, her mother was home and on the phone with a long-time friend. Chick-Fil-A this morning at 11:30. ‘Only 2 hours to go.’ Rayne thought as she looked at the clock. Then, they were going to go to the movies. She stretched in the chair. She was supposed to talk to Shadow some more today. That didn’t sound fun at all.
Rayne’s phone buzzed again. Mike was pissed off. ‘What else is new?’ she thought. But, she texted “why?” anyway.
“A few reasons. I’m trying to tell Shadow he needs to lighten the f**k up. He told me he doesn’t want to because he will open himself up and get hurt if he does. So, I told him ’if you don’t I’ll beat your a*s out of my body and it’ll just be me.’ He said ‘You don‘t have the strength‘ I said ‘My rage is greater than yours‘ he said ‘I AM your rage‘ I said ‘you are only a small part of my rage!’ he finally shut up. P***y a*s.”
“You need to at least be nicer to him. God damn, poor demon. Let me talk to him.”
“I would if I wasn’t so annoyed.”
“Why’re you annoyed?”
“My ex woke me up this morning crying, screaming, and bitching at me.”
“Uh. Ok.” Rayne was getting annoyed at how irrelevant this conversation was to what they were previously talking about. She didn’t care if his ex girlfriend was being a b***h. She wanted to talk to Shadow to hear his side of things. Finally, she got a more normal text message.
“Hello. That was rather annoying.”
“Hi. Yeah, it kinda was. I’m speaking to Shadow now?”
“Yes”
“Well, why do you think you’ll get hurt if you lighten up?” At this point, he got angry.
“[His bloodlust would return as his claws popped out our of rage]”
“Ok. Why’re you angry?”
“Because I’m tired of so many questions!”
“Ok. Would it be better if I just talked?”
“Yes.”
“Ok. You won’t get hurt if you lighten up a bit.”
“I have lightened up…”
“Well, I haven’t seen much yet. If you retract the claws long enough for me to see that, it would be very helpful.”
“[His claws would retract as his eyes calmed and he sat on the couch]”
“Much better.” proud of her accomplishment, she sat back perfectly contented. They had a long, strange conversation where he proved he had lightened up.
Finally, he said something that really disturbed her. “My ex wants to get back with me…”
“……….What’re you gonna do?”
“I don’t know.. I still really care for her..”
As the anger, rage, and jealousy arose, she typed so to him. Explaining in action form that she was punching the wall and growling. She told him she could f**k off. He took the ex’s side which made Rayne even angrier.
Being the intelligent being that he was, he simply said, “Mike can be in reserve and you can have me. He wants her. You can have me. Human for human, demon for demon.”
Truly reluctant, she did agree. After all, she hadn’t yet seen much she did like but she didn’t see much she didn’t like, either.
After their dispute, they decided to stop texting for now. He wanted to sleep and she had s**t to do today. Bad thing was, she was impatient today. She wanted to text Shadow which was weird. She wanted to get to know him better. Giving up her annoyance of him, later on, while he was pissed about something, he decided to text her. She told him how anger didn’t do any good or get anyone anywhere. After all, she knew from experience, she hissed at him once and he threatened to rip her tongue out.
Reluctantly, he replied, “[He would lean back on the couch, his fingers spinning through the air, a knife dancing rapidly between them as he sighed.] You’re right.”
‘I know I am.’ she thought. “I know. Considering what happened when I hissed at you earlier. ” is what she texted.
“Very true. [He flicked his knife with his wrist, it hit the wall digging in as he sighed ever so softly, his body arched as his rage subsided.]”
“*She would get up gently watching him cautiously with her yellow eyes as she sat down next to him on the couch*”
“[He pulled her body onto his own, his legs wrapping around hers, a light purr danced from the pale contingency of his lips.]”
“*She would lean into him gently*”
“[He would kiss her gently, his hues flashing with the dark predatory skills of a huntered orange.]”
“*She would slide her tongue into his mouth*”
“[He would let his hues fade behind the darkened lids as he caressed her own tongue with his.]”
“*She would wrap her arms around his neck*”
“[A sharp static of energy trailed from his form to be discharged into her mouth as he slid his tongue out, his hues dancing with different metals.] I can‘t do this. I have a 140 limit and that‘s not nearly enough to get anything done.”
Yahoo SMS was a pain. “Ok.” She made a few suggestions which he shot down. So, she put her phone up and watched the movie since she was in the movie theatre anyway. Sitting there and watching the movie made her realize she really did like Shadow. She longed for him to be sitting next to her. Talking to her. Holding her hand. She guessed she would have to wait until the movie was over to get that leisure.
