Chapter OneA Chapter by AmyI do believe I covered the description in the description of the book.
Rayne's eyes closed tightly shut as she fell to the floor. The blow she had just received was from the demon she loved so dearly-or did she? This was not the man she once knew. He was different. As she opened her yellow eyes, she looked up at the man who had just hit her so hard in the face. Ranji stood there-laughing. The many things he'd said to her in the past 24 hours came ringing through her ears. She saw the man behind the monster fighting back. Trying to come free. Ranji, tired from being out so long, said, "Now, I've been out too long. I'm going to go rest. I will talk to you later, my Dearest."
'my Dearest,' she thought. 'if I'm you're dearest, why do you put me down and hit me?' Finally, as the boy she cared for so much re-gained control, her eyes nearly filled with tears. She was a strong girl, but she hated the plans Ranji had for this boy's body. "I feel like I've been drugged," he said as he re-gained consciousness. "And I had the weirdest dream that I was locked up in a cage and every time I tried to break free, it would shock me." Overcome with fear and relief, Rayne jumped up and wrapped her arms around him hugging him tightly. "I'm so happy you're back! These past 24 hours have been horrible!" He wrapped his arms around her waist tightly and nuzzled her hair. "Now, now, Love, what's wrong?" Trembling against the sudden chill that ran down her spine, she said, "It's Ranji! He plans to make himself stronger and kill you or get you thrown in jail!" The sudden rage in the boys eyes told her he hadn't planned on any of that. He grabbed her shoulders gently yet firmly, "Rayne, I need you to tell me everything you know." "All I know is that he wants to kill 4 stronger demons to make himself stronger and kill you both." "Rayne, I need to know something before I do this." "What's that?" "Can you love me?" She thought for a second, and realized her next sentence was so true, "I already do." "Ok. Good. This demon is about to find out how bad my rage has gotten in 18 years." He took his hands off her shoulders and stepped backwards. He slid down along the wall and closed his brown eyes. Rayne stood there watching him. It was plain to see he was fighting a demon within himself. For 20 minutes, images of Ranji winning and taking over filled her head. Fear filled her completely. "Mike?" She finally said after 20 minutes. "I am now exhausted." He replied as his brown eyes opened. He looked sleepy, but triumphant. "Ranji's gone, my Dear. He won't be coming back. He can haunt someone else's a*s now." As the relief flooded her, she ran to him, kneeled and hugged him tightly. Tears of joy fell as he embraced her and kissed her head. "You're sure he's completely gone?" "Yes, my Love. He's gone. For good." She snuggled into him squeezing his middle gently. "Good. I'm glad you won." "M'hmm." He replied. Rayne opened her yellow eyes and stared at the wall. It was evident to her that this was a new beginning to them both. It ran through her head how she used to hate him. Mike used to annoy her to no end. She used to imagine killing him in many different ways, but, now, things were different. She loved him. And now, her torturer was gone. She was free. Mike was free. They could be together without having to be aware of another demon hurting her. She could be herself once again. Deep inside, Rayne could sense her human still scared. Amy was a scared little girl. She had been for a long time. Memories of the young girl's past flooded her. Amy used to be fearless. She hadn't a care in the world, she wasn't afraid to be alone, and life hadn't yet tainted her once-innocent heart. In the past few months, Amy had felt more pain than many do. Why? Because she was too open. She'd fallen for 7 guys in the past 10 months. Ranji within Mike had freed Rayne, who brought Amy back to her old self, but Ranji had to go. It amazed Rayne that her feelings for him had died so quickly. She leaned into Mike and sighed softly, and contentedly, as he dropped his chin gently to her head. The time was coming that Rayne had to leave. Though she didn't want to. She wished she could stay so much longer. She never wanted to leave. Sighing annoyedly, she began to get up. "Mm. Where are you going?" Mike said. "I have to go before I get in trouble." she leaned in to kiss him. "I love you. I'll talk to you later." He sighed. "I love you too." She walked to the door and closed it behind her. The drive home always seemed so long. So many people who didn't know how to drive. 10 minutes had passed when she finally got home. Amy's parents weren't home, but Rayne still felt instantly depressed when she stepped through the door. She sighed against tears that were beginning to form as she made her way to the bathroom. After emptying her bladder, she decided to see if Mike was online. Seeing he was "away" as usual, she decided to go to sleep. She walked through the empty house. Down the short hallway to her room, first door on the right. As she opened the door, the fabric she'd hung over the door flew at her. She jumped onto the black sheets after closing the door, turned her MP3player to Candyman by Aqua-which was the only thing that could calm her- and went to sleep. © 2009 Amy |
