Prologue (revised)

Life is infinite in the cruelest way possible.

That's all that I can think about as the world around me ignites.

The flames rear their heads again, dancing to a song none of us can hear. All I can hear are the screams of anguish as death wanders through the forest.

I won't die. 

The fire can't kill me. 

And that's why life is so infinitely unpleasant for me. 

Tomorrow I'll be the sole survivor, and I'll be forced to look upon the charred remains of everyone and everything. The guilt ways down on me as I step through the fire, embers swirling above me, like a halo atop a celestial being. 

An angel stuck in hellfire.
