Hurts

Tortured by the words I am reminded of

An angel you always called me

A demon I let myself believe

Old memories make me smile

But it hurts

It hurts me to see the truth in people’s eyes

The curse I’m born with is your lies

Going back in time to rewatch my demise

Not for the first time

Newly risen and afraid

Hurt on my tongue and pain in my heart

But it always hurts

The first line would read better if you went with "I am" instead of "I'm"

This poem feels like a prison made of memories... and that one's development is arrested because of it.

I love when poems aren't unnecessarily long or needlessly convoluted. There are many ways to interpret this poem but it still remains relatively straight forward and accessible. That's no easy task. Well done.
