All I wanted was not to bother

Yet here I am beginning to stutter

Lost in my head, scratching the surface

Drowning, from the lack of understanding

Controlled by my thoughts

They make me dread

The words they said

The hurt and how it spread

Locked inside a cage of glass

Feeling trapped inside self doubt

Let me out! Set me free!

Author's Note

This poem is about the mental and physical abuse I went through during this last year. How my 'friends' said words and brought down their fists to hurt. It felt like I was on display in an aquarium, wanting nothing more than to be set free. I was to ashamed to say anything about it, so I was trapped inside my head wondering if I said anything, would anyone listen? Instead of facing my problems at the source, I chose to hide away from everything. I acted like I was alright and like things were normal. Deep down, I knew that friends weren't supposed to be like that... yet I did nothing to stop everything... I was criticized for writing the truth on paper. I was called worse things at that point, so I stopped writing for awhile. I didn't want to be a bother to anyone else, so I didn't bring them into my problems. I kept it quiet...
