Icarus Falls

Icarus Falls

A Poem by Abyzmi
"

The fall of Icarus. Happens quite a lot actually... and usually when we least expect it.

"

As Icarus falls

Daedalus screams

"Icarus!" he calls

"I warned you of your wings!"

But Icarus falls

The wind marring his ear

He's staring down golden halls

He knew his end was near

As Icarus falls

Faster toward the sea

"Zeus!" Daedalus bawls

"Listen now, hear my plea!"

But Icarus falls

For Hades to claim

"No," Zeus consoles

"His fate must remain!"

Daedalus turns

Away to the skies

His heart burns

On to Sicily he flies

Abyzmi
For those of you who may not know, Daedalus was the father of Icarus. He was imprisoned on the Island of Crete so that no one would learn the secrets of the Labyrinth which he built so that king Minos could keep the Minotaur.
Anyway, Daedalus was a pretty crafty guy. He had this idea one day to make these wings out of wax, feathers and string for him and his son, Icarus. They would then use them to escape Crete forever.
Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun or the wax holding his wings together would melt. But Icarus was young. In the excitement of the freedom of flight, he forgot himself and ascended. Of course, he flew too close to the sun and... Tsssss
No more Icarus.
