Between Angels and InsectsA Poem by AlfredBUnnatural in beauty, unsaintly in thought I ponder her ways, and the misery she brought Ignored and abandoned, she has cast me adrift My tears she has hastened, my grief has been swift.
Why did I think that I ever stood a chance? She toyed with my heart, and led me a dance A dance with the Devil, alluring and bright She banished my sorrow, and put it to flight
I thought I found bliss, we talked and we smiled An angel made flesh, so pure, undefiled Then she showed her true nature, and I weep as I write Silent and frigid; she held me in spite.
Like a meaningless insect, a fly or a roach, She brushed me aside, destroying my hopes. Heartless and soulless, some inhuman race, Between angels and insects, she honors her place.
Someday I may forgive her lack of compassion Perhaps in her suffering I’ll discover my peace But meanwhile my hatred survives unabated ‘Til that blessed day when I find my release. By A. Butler © 2013 AlfredB |
