Here's one last post-retirement vignette, a fantasy-adventure about governance and dreams involving the fantastic Sareena (Mortal Kombat), a demon-queen of surprising daydreams. This short-story reflects my lifelong fascination with video games and dioramas. Thanks so much for reading,
---- ==== Outworld was a strange and fantastic realm of great images and dark tidings. It was inhabited by numerous warriors of great proportion and ruled by the iron-fisted Kotal Kahn, a ruler of ominous intentionality. Every year, Outworld would host an incredible combat tournament of martial arts and weapons called Mortal Kombat, and the ruler Kotal Kahn would watch over this tournament and have his iron maiden Sindel watch over alongside with him. This combat tournament invited the greatest warriors of Outworld such as Raiden (god of lightning), Leatherface (chainsaw-wielding maniac), Kung Lao (decapitating kung-fu specialist), and Kitana (warrior-princess with blade-fans). ![]() As Sindel and her daughters presided over the rule of Kotal Kahn and punished those who dared defy his control over Outworld, the annual Mortal Kombat tournament became the best outlet for basic human entertainment, free of the worries of outright oppression by the fierce Kotal Kahn. In fact, the Mortal Kombat tournament became a way to simply be able to forget about the dark realities of the ominous rule of Kotal Kahn and his menacing female queens. No rebel who defied Kotal Kahn, such as Jade, Jax, Cassie Cage, and Johnny Cage were considered heretics and enemies of complete order. ![]() The Mortal Kombat tournament was therefore rather well-proportioned for ideas and images about liberty and escapism for those too timid to officially rebel against Kotal Kahn and his fierce rule in Outworld. While the various rebellions were ruthlessly quashed by Kahn and his menacing female queens, those who worried about the graphic escapism of the annual Mortal Kombat tournament and empathized with the deep plight of the failing rebels labeled heretics, a handful of philosophical poetic warriors would convene to design more sophisticated designs for more thorough liberty zones in Outworld that would prevent Mortal Kombat from becoming a spiritual addiction. One such philosophizing poet-warrior was the demon-queen Sareena, a woman who was both conscious of her dark powers and pensive of her duty to encourage liberty and democracy in Outworld. ![]() Sareena had only one friend in the Mortal Kombat successful warrior Raiden, god of lightning. Raiden had the incredible ability to control electric energy and used this power to deal with his opponents in the combat tournament. Even the ruler Kotal Kahn in Outworld considered Raiden a fantastic emissary of tangible potent fighting and power. Raiden, however, was disturbed by Outworld injustice as much as his only female friend Sareena. Sareena and Raiden tried to recruit various philosophers and poets who would assist them in designing more practical schemes to reach the rebellious spirits who were being punished by Kotal Kahn and his menacing female queens. Raiden therefore was Sareena's special Outworld male guardian and great ally. ![]() SAREENA: Maybe we can somehow trick Kotal Kahn! RAIDEN: Well, I might approach him and tell him I'm interested in becoming his private knight. SAREENA: Yes, infiltrate his ruling court and destroy his menacing female queens! RAIDEN: I'll tell his queens I wish to be their love-servants and then discover their secrets. SAREENA: We'll use these secrets to undermine Kotal Kahn's presidio over Mortal Kombat! RAIDEN: Be careful, Sareena: don't underestimate Kahn's spies who'll be watching you. SAREENA: I'm more wary of Outworld dystopia! ![]() While Raiden infiltrated Kotal Kahn's evil fortress and uncovered some of his deep ruling secrets from his wayward female queens, Sareena continued to recruit, manage, and reach philosophers and poets who'd help her to create more practical plans to deal with Kahn's evil reign and therefore perhaps even free some of the rebels who were imprisoned in the Dark Tower. Raiden knew that if this overall plan worked, the Mortal Kombat tournament would be more like a competition catharsis and Outworld would feel more like a moderate socialist state in which Kahn was simply a ruling figurehead. Raiden therefore considered this venture a vision of great electric dance. ![]() SAREENA: "I'm in love with my good male friend Raiden. He's so strong yet so self-controlled. Once this awful struggle is over and Kotal Kahn and his dark queens are somehow subdued into their appropriate pockets of governance, we can enjoy the more vital amenities of Outworld together. Perhaps I'll ask Raiden if he'll become my husband. He'll surely be impressed by my passion to reach out to the oppressed rebels cruelly imprisoned in the Dark Tower by Kahn and his evil queens. As a demon-queen, I pledge to make Outworld more dreamy...both for Raiden and for myself!" ![]() RAIDEN: "If we succeed, I'll marry Sareena to make this improved Outworld a place of shocking diligence." ==== "Money is everything" (Ecclesiastes)
