A government operative returns to his hometown for his high-school reunion and wonders about Protestant-Catholic defomity while seeking a more ordinary life with his girlfriend!

"
To finally sign off (yes!), here's a globalization-idealism vignette inspired by the high-school diorama film Grosse Pointe Blank (John Cusack), a modest short fan-fiction probing the question partly, "How have Protestant-Catholic rifts been neglected by the global community because of the more mainstream Israel-Palestine imagination?"

A traveler landed in JFK on an Aer Lingus flight from Dublin (Ireland) to attend his post-Coronavirus high-school reunion in New Jersey.

The traveler was Isaac Satan, an Algerian-American CIA operative working with P-IRA (Provisional Irish Republican Army) in Northern Ireland during the Coronavirus quarantine to obtain more media access for the Irish Catholic minority in Belfast living alongside the British Protestant majority population who'd settled there for generations as colonialists and their descendants. Isaac Satan was given the field-alias 'Green Shadow' and worked to resolve media biases and employment problems during the Coronavirus quarantine and was now on-leave to attend his high-school reunion in New Jersey and visit his Algerian-American mother Sheila. Isaac was excited to see his mother. He had relatives in the FLN revolution against French colonial rule in Algeria and therefore empathized with the Protestant-Catholic division in Northern Ireland.

Green Shadow was considered an ace-recruit for foreign intelligence and guerrilla work and ties to both P-IRA and Sinn Fein in Parliamentary dealings regarding new age Protestant-Catholic negotiations and troubles. He was Algerian by heritage but gained the quick respect of both American and Irish operatives working in the United Kingdom to bring Protestant-Catholic troubles to some kind of conclusive end and heal the dominating schism in the global Christian community in Europe.

Isaac was excited for his high-school reunion at Eastern High School in New Jersey. His favorite teachers included Mrs. Randy, Mr. Fuller, Mrs. Burt, and Mr. Kim. While at Eastern, Isaac was an A-student and somewhat popular, though he constantly studied hard instead of partying so he was able to be admitted into the prestigious Ivy League (Dartmouth College), where he studied psychology and literature and guerrilla warfare before being recruited by the CIA. Isaac was a specialist in target-shooting, computers, explosives, intelligence, munitions, financing, and networks in Northern Ireland and North America but needed a much-welcomed break from all the grave Protestant-Catholic deformity and eagerly looked forward to his high-school reunion!

Isaac submitted a citizen's editorial to the Washington Post ahead of his Eastern High reunion in which he wrote, "If the United Nations opts to ignore the Protestant-Catholic division in the United Kingdom in preference for the age-old problem of Israel-Palestine petroleum political dialogue even in this new era of globalization consciousness, the deep rift in the global Christian community between the two dominant denominations (Protestantism and Catholicism) will no doubt result in all kinds of modern inter-religious cynicism...and narcissism!"

Of course, Isaac ('Green Shadow') was right about petroleum-capital biases creating unhealthy neglect of Protestant-Catholic rifts in Northern Ireland created by socioeconomic and lifestyle concerns and employment disparities between the Irish Catholics and British Protestants in Belfast! Everyone simply was more interested in Israel-Palestine, and Isaac worked tirelessly with P-IRA and Sinn Fein to bring more globalization-consciousness speech to Parliament. This was a social mission, but Isaac needed a real break from all this 'democratic' madness!

Isaac re-connected with his high-school sweetheart, Monica Shaw, who was now a lawyer in NYC but returned to her hometown to attend the Eastern reunion. She was shocked to receive a call and email from Isaac who simply vanished after high-school and college when he was recruited by the CIA and then began work with P-IRA. He never shared any of his work-life 'details' with Monica and now told her he was just a salesman in Dublin. She was impressed but more impressed that he had the courage to call her again after so many years of disappearance!

The Eastern reunion was supposed to be a real treat, and many classmates were going to attend, and some intended to dress up in their authentic high-school years fashion and clothing. Some of this nostalgic activity felt like the reunion was some kind of culture TV ad.

Isaac had a fine time in high-school in New Jersey, but mostly liked spending time with his girlfriend (Monica) and his Algerian mother. He now wondered what it'd be like to see his old Eastern community once more.

A famous TV talk-show personality who was a member of this Eastern reunion class also wanted to attend the Eastern reunion, and she sought to do an expose feature on the high-school hometown romance between Isaac Satan and Monica Shaw on her tv-show, and she wondered what the Eastern reunion spirit would contribute to this discussion!

There was great beer and socializing to be had and great nostalgia. Isaac bought his mother a dozen sunflowers before heading off to the reunion with Monica.

The lighting and music and get-together felt ideal, and there were great seating and dancing areas of the reunion arena which was basically a wall-separated group of areas in the Eastern gymnasium. This was a fine way to celebrate the end of the Coronavirus tribulation in America.

Isaac and Monica drank a ton of beer.

However, a Black-and-Tan British police enforcer-recruit named Thomas Milton followed Isaac covertly to his Eastern reunion, posing as an online home-schooling exchange-student from Bristol (England) and gained access to the reunion with a smuggled event-pass and ticket. Thomas was a ruthless Black-and-Tan enforcer-man in the UK and was involved with various brutal raids on IRA-sympathizer areas and havens in Northern Ireland.

Thomas was now after Isaac ('Green Shadow') whom he targeted as a conspicuous 'ally' of the Irish Catholics and non-neutral agent of the US government! It was now Thomas the stalwart Black-and-Tan versus Isaac the undercover Algerian-American neo-crusader.

Isaac and Monica were busy doodling on a piece of a high-school yearbook scrapbook page featuring their female classmates with vintage 1980s big-hairstyles, crossing off the ones they thought were especially humorous. Isaac then decided to walk to the restroom for a little wash-up and bathroom-break but promised he'd return to continue his yearbook doodling with his sweetheart Monica!

When Isaac came out of the bathroom, Thomas Milton was waiting for him and was holding a silver handgun. Isaac swiftly kicked the gun out of Thomas' stern hand and then proceeded to do some unseen hand-to-hand hallway combat with the ruthless Black-and-Tan sentinel sent to the Eastern reunion to destroy the US operative in the UK. Isaac managed to use his Eastern reunion pen hidden in his pocket to stab a hole in Thomas' neck, causing him to bleed to death. It was then that Monica came upon the 'scene' and realized her ex-boyfriend was some kind of government assassin.

Isaac asked his high-school buddy Gordon to help him lift Thomas' dead corpse to the high-school basement furnace-room where they just dumped the body into the heater and watched it turn to ash, disposing all evidence of the killer-infiltration and necessary assassination. Isaac then turned to Gordon and explained he was a CIA operative for the P-IRA in Northern Ireland and was tracked to the Eastern reunion by this ruthless Black-and-Tan and would return to the UK after the reunion to continue his mission to bring Protestant-Catholic unholiness to an end in Europe.

Gordon was stunned to discover his high-school buddy was now knee-deep in the complex world of IRA politics and Parliament controversy in Europe. He wondered what Isaac would've become had he stayed in the USA and become a political writer, which is what Isaac had told Gordon was his dream ambition while they were pals in high-school in New Jersey!

Northern Ireland was hell. Would crusaders like Isaac Satan ('Green Shadow') be able to offer any real kind of solution to this deformative rift between the two dominant denominations in the Christian community in the UK?

All Americans mostly knew of the 'troubles' in Northern Ireland was that it was a rogue colony of Britain, the source of otherwise colorful royalty tabloids about the fascinating Princess Diana and now handsome/dashing Prince William! The Eastern High reunion attendees and guests had no idea Isaac was linked to all this terrorist and police brutality controversy in Northern Ireland. In fact, Isaac understood his classmates were much more versed in the global political ramifications of Israel-Palestine and had originally hoped his reunion experience regarding 'politics' would be limited to casual talks about Jews and Muslims in the Middle East with the classmate friends he cherished as American friends of world chit-chat.

However, Isaac confided to Monica everything he was involved in regarding the United Kingdom. He broke down and told her he wanted to marry her and move in with his mother and that he'd return from his IRA missions and settle down in America to write a non-controversial book about Protestant-Catholic visions in Europe. He even gave Monica a society magazine vignette from The Guardian about modern media socialization. Monica softened her otherwise shocked heart and agreed to become his wife.

ISAAC ('GREEN SHADOW'): What I learned during my New Jersey high-school reunion was that community is the essence of the human question about sociocultural sanity. I love my wife, and I love my faith.
