Magic: The Quarantine

Magic: The Quarantine

A Story by Abishai100
"

Isaac Castle creates an online group of Magic card-game players during the great Coronavirus quarantine and sparks a special indoor-life drive during the tribulation.

"
Here's a fun Coronavirus quarantine fable, inspired by the film Mystery Men and referencing the RPG fantasy-adventure card-game Magic: The Gathering, which I do actually believe this time will be my last contribution to WritersCafe, so I hope you read it and like it. Please stay safe all during this great quarantine trial and God bless,

"Isaac Castle was an Internet-blogger looking for something cool to do during the Coronavirus global quarantine. He decided to start playing the card fantasy-adventure RPG Magic: The Gathering. Isaac wanted to invite players from the Internet to play with him online in recorded and notated games that the players would play from their homes either online or with notations about actual cards in their homes. Isaac became a Magic wizard and online conductor in two short months, between February and April during the global virus quarantine!"

"Now, Magic is a terrific card game involving multiple players challenging each other with various identity or avatars with special powers and charms that can be organized with land or territory charms and then used to advance against the enemy or opponent or challenger. He who drains the opponent's life-charge points first is the winner. Magic had become quite a popular RPG in America and gained in popularity because of the modern conveniences of the Internet. Each Magic card presented colorful magical characters with descriptions of their powers and attributes."

"Isaac found a group of interesting people online to play Magic games with in two short months. The first was an eccentric American writer who liked wearing a hockey-mask instead of a face-mask when he ventured outside during the Coronavirus quarantine. This eccentric, named Jason, wanted to accept Isaac's Magic invite, since he was curious about the way Isaac was organizing online group fantasy-adventure RPG play."

"The second individual who accepted Isaac's Magic online play invite was a Berkeley assistant professor, a hippie actually, named Shirley, who wanted to play Magic online, since she'd just begun to get into the game and its online conveniences, especially during the frustrating and sometimes worrying global Coronavirus quarantine. Shirley wanted to use sorceress cards to advance in points against Isaac who was quite skilled!"

"Isaac liked using a special wolf avatar in his play called the Erupting Deadwolf, which was really the counterpart or rather opposite of the standard and iconic Werewolf character. This Deadwolf was a RPG symbol of both stealth and patience rather than the usual Werewolf quality of stealth and prowess. You see, Isaac's style of play was much more reserved, calculated, and patience-oriented, since he liked luring players towards strategic scenarios to see if he could test their will to use colorful avatars in creating competitive diagonal scenarios. Isaac had become a Deadwolf master."

"Another character in Isaac's online Magic players' group was a New Orleans lawyer named Theresa Russell who liked how the fantasy-adventure RPG challenged her sense of imagination and indoor creativity during the otherwise terrible Coronavirus quarantine."

"Sometimes Isaac designed special online virtual play scenarios for his team of players, which he named the American Proctors, to create nifty visual experiences of imaginative play during the Coronavirus quarantine. This spoke to Isaac's general love of computers!"

"As Isaac arrayed the Magic playing-cards for sessions of play, his opponents from the American Proctors group arrayed their own cards and therefore created convenient and real-time strategic RPG fun. This was a nice antidote to the general human fear created during the Coronavirus experience at least in the USA."

"Isaac decided to create a special robot avatar for his American Proctors team of Magic players online. This robot avatar was a fictional female A.I. robot-warrior named Greenlight from the iconic Transformers (Hasbro) fantasy-adventure franchise. Greenlight became the group avatar for the American Proctors and spoke to their general love of Magic duels!"

"An online Magic company spokesman noticed Isaac's online group play with the American Proctors and decided to put the company's official endorsement seal for the group so there could be come nice ads to complement the online play which now was seeing many other online trollers viewing as the American Proctors created exciting play. This Magic company spokesman was a smart California lawyer named Tandy Dartmouth."

"As the American Proctors engaged in popular and fun Magic playing sessions online and saw many people viewing their games on a public bulletin board on the Magic forum, Isaac Castle became known as a terrific online Magic wizard. The Magic company even offered to present the American Proctors with a brand new RPG avatar called the Duke Assassin which would serve as the group's official image."

"The Coronavirus quarantine had made home entertainment much more symbolic of human unity and humanity's willingness to bind together and practice organized social distancing and work and study and play from home so the virus would finally be contained. Suddenly, various classic media and entertainment franchises were becoming resurrected in popularity, as quarantined citizens around the world were navigating YouTube and other video-and-film-and-cartoon sites to find entertainment they enjoyed regularly during their indoor experience!"

"A Wall Street stockbroker predicted this trend in home-entertainment and advised his struggling New York company to make big investments in Netflix, which then saw a huge spike in profits and sales and rentals in the summer of 2020. This Coronavirus quarantine had ironically created a new kind of adventurer --- the indoor-activity professor!"

"Since Isaac Castle had been very successful with his Magic online group and play with the American Proctors, he decided to collect a handful of glowing new age marbles that signified his newfound indoor appreciation of design and how it served as an antidote to Coronavirus quarantine daylight rage."

ISAAC: The Magic experience has been quite a ride, and I hope my team of American Proctors has shown that groups of organized people during the Coronavirus quarantine experience can prove that modern media resources can help us feel closer together in this time of otherwise social dread. I've even made a special computer anti-virus contract with M.I.T. to facilitate the expediency of online play of and maybe that will even boost Magic diarism! God bless America."
