The Altering RelationshipA Story by Abishai100A soccer-dude begins to alter his consciousness because of his dynamic with his new girlfriend from Wales.Alright, since I feel goosebumps retiring from short-stories with a stark story about terrorism, I've added this 'addendum' about my love of soccer --- a vignette about a relationship helping a soccer-dude grow emotionally. Hope you like it! Merry Christmas (signing off), ==== "I went to Wales to see if women there were interested in soccer. I met an artist designing comic book graphics of women (superheroines!) playing soccer. I wondered if there was a link between soccer and feminism. Even though I'm a male, I began to become interested in women in soccer, even though I play men's soccer." "I met a very nice girl in Wales named Kate who liked soccer and followed the US women's national soccer team, winner of 4 World Cups. I told Kate I wanted to date her, so we went to a pub, and I told her about my love of the Argentina national soccer team, winner of 2 World Cups in men's soccer! Kate and I keep in touch with texts (with our iPhones) now that I'm back in America." "I made a water-color painting of Kate designed to highlight my perception of her as an alluring woman from Wales who shared my love of soccer and just might grow to like Argentine soccer and stop following only women's soccer. I hope Kate likes the painting. If she does, she might cheer with Argentina men's teams with me in future World Cups (and I just might start cheering for women's teams with her!)." "Kate sent me a mix-tape with songs about soccer, and I really liked it. I realized there was a strange link between music and sports, and I told her about Spanish music and Spanish people's love of soccer. She started getting suspicious, however, and wondered if I was simply trying to get her to like more men's soccer!" "I started reading Penthouse graphic pornographic magazines and wondered if I was being chauvinistic in my attitude towards cheering only for men's soccer. I wondered if Kate was interested in women's soccer only and if I was trying to drag her into the world of men's soccer simply because women's soccer seemed too alien to me. Was I a chauvinist?" "Kate sent me a photo of her in a white bikini from a beach and wearing sunglasses on a yacht. She told me she was on the yacht with her girlfriends watching a World Cup women's soccer game on a video-recording! I told Kate that was interesting and she must have had a lot of fun, but I wondered secretly if I was still just basically biased towards men's soccer." "Finally, I sent Kate a gold-and-wood Jesus Christ statue and explained to her that I'd promise I'd start watching more women's soccer on TV. Since I've played in various levels in men's soccer, I'm simply alien to women's soccer, but my romantic/spiritual interest in Kate is drawing me more and more towards women's soccer now. Kate is changing me completely." "I made another painting of Kate, this time in oils, and more graphic and curvy and nudist, so she'd appreciate what I was trying to do with my life in terms of my interests in women's rights (etc.) as I began to embrace women's soccer! I sold my painting on a Fine Art website and sent Kate some of my profits so she could buy a Christmas dress! The painting was a modernist expression of women dealing with physical harassment in an aggressive world." "Kate visited me in America from Wales and we began playing Genesis classic soccer games featuring women's teams! She and I had a lot of fun, and I confessed women's soccer was really appealing to me now, because of the time we spent together." "Kate was impressed and purchased for me a nifty table-soccer game, operated by magnets and game-pieces! It's now my favorite toy." "Kate befriended American musician Sheryl Crow while in America and began talking to her about women's soccer and the successes of the US women's national team. Kate told Crow about me, her new boyfriend and soccer player and fan of Argentine men's soccer. Crow found our gender-dialogue quite interesting and wrote a song about it!" "Kate and I might never agree about the value of women's soccer or if men's soccer is in no way superior to women's soccer. However, she's challenged me personally and spiritually, which is all I could ask. In the meantime, I will be on the lookout for talented female soccer players now." KATE: I worry you'll now look for 'sexy' female soccer players! ME: No, honey; I'm interested in sincere cheerleading. KATE: Cool; don't let me down. ME: I won't be a typical chauvinistic athlete/fan, Kate. KATE: We'll see... ME: I feel like I'm under the gun here. KATE: Maybe you are! ME: We'll learn together. KATE: We'll watch a lot of television. ==== © 2019 Abishai100 |
