"

An Algerian prince named Amlan challenges his cruel father to a game of billiards and wins and uses the inspiration to invest in Goya beans and becomes a modern American prince.

"
This is an American Dream fable inspired by the thematic film A Place in the Sun.

====

Amlan moved to America with his parents from Algeria in the 1990s. He was the heir to a royal family but decided to move to America so he could attend the Ivy League and move the family to the greatest nation in the world! Amlan studied very hard in high-school (in Washington!) and was admitted into Dartmouth College. He studied Cognitive Science and then worked in a Neuroscience Think Tank before traveling to Nepal to meditate in the Himalayas. Amlan concluded that to be a real American prince, he'd have to pursue the great American Dream. He returned to America and challenged his cruel father to a game of billiards. Amlan learned to play in college and knew his father had extraordinary skills in billiards. His father was very obstinate and cruel, and Amlan wanted to grow out of his father's shadow. The game was very tense, and everything felt like it was on the line. However, Amlan kept pace with his father's very elegant play and managed to pull out a nail-biter victory after some stunning late-game finessed angle shots!

Amlan had achieved what he wanted to achieve. He decided to start writing a book about his experience as an immigrant-prince from Algeria challenging his father to a very symbolic game of billiards, a game he'd remember as he coolly began embracing the proverbial American Dream. Amlan had tried many different things in college but as a man, he wanted to do something substantial and worthwhile. He decided to convert to Christianity and read the entire Bible over the course of one summer. He then used his family's substantial funds to partly invest in Goya beans, a popular supermarket brand of Spanish beans. Beans were a staple even in the age of the supermarket, and Amlan wanted to come up with various recipes for gourmet bean dishes from the Mediterranean, Africa, and Asia. His mother was a great cook too, which is where Amlan got most of his inspiration!

Amlan posted his Goya beans recipes on the Internet so people trying to prepare easy-to-follow gourmet dishes could find some real creativity from canned goods easily found in the supermarket. Amlan's recipes became quite popular and got a ton of hits! He was very happy now and wanted to meet someone online (in an Internet dating-site!) and ask her to be his bride, the eventual heiress/princess to his royal inheritance. Amlan's parents were very proud too, and Amlan began writing drafts of the early parts of his billiards-dream book, which would be titled Challenging Destiny. Amlan decided to also use Internet resources to offer Montessori-school (homeschooling) advocates resources and ideas for teaching from home. Amlan took various education courses at Dartmouth and learned much about the intricacies of teaching. His appreciation of Montessori schooling contributed to his interesting education Internet posts.

Amlan was now doing everything he wanted to do and learned to apply while in college. He was becoming a real American prince! He decided to dress up in a terrorist-costume for Halloween and posted a short-story (using the costume-photo as a highlight) about Americans dealing with post-9/11 trauma. The story became very popular on the Writing Forum that Amlan joined. Amlan showed the story to his father, and his father admitted he was impressed. Amlan decided to celebrate by inviting some of his Montessori-school contacts and students/kids to a billiards hall in Washington for Christmas. The event was quite the affair and celebrity Leo DiCaprio attended to promote eco-activism among Montessori-school advocates. After all, Leo knew Amlan was a royal from Algeria with important diplomatic UN contacts (mostly through his father). Ajay wondered if all this positive social work in modern-day (21st Century) America would afford him a special appearance for a political interview on EWTN. Was Amlan a real American dreamer?
