The Minstrel of Argentina

The Minstrel of Argentina

A Story by Abishai100
"

An eccentric flute-playing minstrel in Argentina named Pablo decides he's a 'witness' of the panoply of life around him, but those who meet him oddly think he might be some kind of fairy or witch.

"
Pablo roamed around Buenos Aires (Argentina) in the summer of 2020, looking for people who'd be entertained by his special flute-playing in the streets. Pablo was a gypsy and a minstrel and a nearly magical flute-player, so when he performed, he attracted anyone interested slightly in the complex lyricism of the sounds of music. Pablo was a handsome 29 year-old man born in Argentina, supposedly, but he had no family or friends to speak of and roamed around as some kind of wanderer. In Buenos Aires, he became a somewhat popular street-performing flute-player, so the people started referring to him whimsically as the affable 'Minstrel of Argentina.'
====
Pablo liked to witness the life and traffic around him in Argentina while he roamed around looking for special spots to perform his flute-music. He was an accomplished minstrel and had toured with two circus companies in Argentina. No one knew where Pablo was born (specifically) in Argentina or who his parents were, and he didn't seem to have any meaningful long-term relationships with other people. He was simply a wandering 'minstrel.' He would often wear a red cape while performing his special flute-music for people, and many started claiming he was some kind of 'other-worldly being' because of his attractive eccentricity!
====
Pablo was a real flighty individual, so one couldn't really get a grip on what or how he put his special 'charm' on those drawn to his performances or personality(!). Pablo was indeed the 'Minstrel of Argentina.' He had read many magazines and learned about Argentinian history and culture through these magazines. He was also a fan of world folk-tales such as those of the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow and the the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Pablo imagined he was likened to such eccentric 'avatars' who exhibited qualities/features that made them stand out as 'folk dolls.'
====
Pablo was playing his flute one day in Buenos Aires when a group of young women gathered around to listen, drawn to his special skill with music as a minstrel. When they asked him where he learned to play, he simply told them he picked up the gift from the air around him! The young women began listening to Pablo play and started feeling hypnotized and mesmerized by the eccentric 'Minstrel of Argentina.' One of the women who was particularly fascinated by Pablo's performance demanded, whimsically, to know if he was an angel...or a fairy. Pablo gave her a strange but charming wink.
====
PABLO: I'm delighted you're charmed by my flute-playing.
WOMAN: It's almost as if I can't stop listening to your music!
PABLO: Yes, I seem to have that effect on my audiences.
WOMAN: You're from Argentina?
PABLO: I was born in Argentina and became a roaming minstrel.
WOMAN: You've performed with the circus?
PABLO: Two circuses in fact...
WOMAN: And now you're a random street-performing musician!
PABLO: Indeed...
WOMAN: I noticed your playing is reminiscent of something flighty but intelligible.
PABLO: I try to make my music airy but grounded!
WOMAN: Yes, that's why I was transfixed; it was as if I was listening to an angel.
PABLO: Perhaps that's what kept you listening...
WOMAN: Why, are you an angel...or a fairy perhaps?
PABLO: If you like!
WOMAN: Seriously, I don't meant to be obtuse, but you have the 'spirit' of magic.
PABLO: If I was a fairy/angel, I couldn't simply tell you or disclose this.
WOMAN: Me and my group of girlfriends listening to you were fixated to your music!
PABLO: I noticed...
WOMAN: That's why we wondered if the 'Minstrel of Argentina' was 'extra-human.'
PABLO: I'm as human as you need me to be...
WOMAN: Of course, but I get the strange superstitious feeling you're 'magical.'
PABLO: I'm merely a magician, miss!
WOMAN: No; I have the oddest feeling you're an angel or a fairy, Pablo.
PABLO: If such a thought entertains your mind, continue to entreat the thought.
WOMAN: Well, I'm honestly very curious now about what afforded you your special 'charm.'
PABLO: Do you think it was the Devil?
WOMAN: No; well, I think it was God or a mystical force, or whatever guides fairies(!).
PABLO: If I was a fairy in Argentina, why would you need to know or think such a thing?
WOMAN: I need to believe in something...destined.
PABLO: In fact, miss, that's why I play my flute.
