The Magic Camera

The Magic Camera

A Story by Abishai100
"

A photojournalist buys a magical Polaroid camera and begins taking snapshots of racing horses and sells them as romantic images of favored horses who didn't win and becomes a famous artist.

"
Danforth had been a respected photojournalist for The Post for the past five years. However, he felt something was missing in his life. Danforth craved an inspirational form of energy and decided to visit a mystical antique and novelty-item store in DC that sold items of special sacred value. Danforth found a nifty dazzling vintage 1980s Polaroid instant-camera and resolved to make the sacred item even more magical.

Danforth decided to take a small vacation and visit a popular American horse-race track where he could take snapshots of the racing horses before each race was completed. He then started posting the photos of the racing horses on Facebook, citing and commenting on the photographed horses that actually did not win their respective races(!). You see, the idealistic Danforth wanted people to romantically think of the horses that didn't end up winning.

Danforth posted about 200 race-photos over the course of 3 months (in the summer of 2020). He posted his photos on Facebook and then talked about the losing horses as ironic 'trophies' of the competitive spirit that downplays our natural greedy abiting to 'always win.' Danforth then credited his 'magical Polaroid instant-camera' for making this optimistic capitalism-toned competition-prayer themed 'storytelling' activity an exposition in sportsmanship. Danforth was then celebrated as a modern-day 'creative Thomas Nast.'

GOD: It seems Danforth has 'elevated' the spiritual value of his Polaroid camera!
SATAN: People who saw his race-photos/comments appreciated his idealism.
GOD: There's a strange magic to instant photos...
SATAN: This is the modern age of network activity!
GOD: I wonder what was the predecessor to instant photography.
SATAN: Well, it was the political cartoon of course.
GOD: Why's that?
SATAN: Political cartoons were the original 'network campfire.'
GOD: Maybe the Polaroid will be considered the new telegraph.
SATAN: Humanity is fascinated by 'small miracles.'
GOD: Perhaps civilization is a 'thing of romance.'
