Journey

Journey

A Poem by HC Abiona

In the summertime, I am home.
My peers, my family and my friends.... we are together as a whole.
The heat makes me feel alive.
There is nothing like a kiss from the sun.
My mother holds me tight, making me feel safe and secure.
My father watches over me... night and day.
Their relationship is root deep and like no other.
As time goes by I begin to age.
The Sun's kiss is no longer joyous, but instead leaves me dry and unsatisfied.
Mother finally lets me go and there is nothing that I can do.
Tears fall, the wind blows, and my family waves goodbye... one of the saddest moments of my life.
I am with my father now.
It is cold. It is damp. It is even dark at times.
I slowly discover myself and reminisce about the warmth I once took for granted.
Once I truly find my purpose, Spring will come... bringing me back home.
Where the Love blossoms and grows stronger.

This poem is a delight, despite its sadness and nostalgia. The warm portrait of family strength and security is further warmed by the summer's sun. Then comes the pain of growing up, of separation, of arid dryness. The time with father is dark and difficult - but through this time of hardship comes maturity. Memories of the past feed into hopes for the future. The winter will pass and newness of life and purpose come again with the Spring. My prayer is that love will truly blossom, that strength will come with arousal.

How well you have framed your thoughts and found words to sustain life and hope.
