It's not me, it's you

It's not me, it's you

A Poem by Abibliophobe

'It's not me. It's you.'

Although you called yourself foolish,
You said you'd done wrong:
'I was stupid, thoughtless.'
Although you always begged,
You came to find me just to say it:
'I'm sorry, I was cruel.'

But the doubt started creeping in.
'I'm worthless, girl, I'm nothing.
No one wants me. Not even you'.
It's you girl, all your fault.'

Always my fault.

What did I do? No.
What didn't I do:
'You didn't hold my hand' -
(But only when others were there!)
'You didn't look at me' -
(But I can't always stare at you!)
'You didn't choose me' -
(But I never see my friends!)

A constant barrage of abuse,
So subtle, not even I saw it.
Slowly picking away at me,
Filling me full of hate,
Self-doubt, and sadness.

Until.

I stopped it.

In the end, you know
It all worked out
You see you were right:

It wasn't me.

It was you.

One of my weaker poems I think, but I'd love some feedback

About
Writing has always held a place in my heart, and as a child I would write stories all the time. However as I got older I found I was too busy to find time to write. Now I feel that needs to change, an.. more..
