Jaws of LifeA Poem by Abhishek RamThis is a testament to the many who suffer from depression and anxiety or anyone who negatively view themselves. You will get better, you will feel better, and most of all, you are not alone.I watch the moon in my dreams, Imagining, but nothing is as it seems, Because I'm locked in my own misery, Locked within myself permanently. I wish to view the stars, to see them twinkle, But I'm forced to look in a grimy mirror at my eyes, I see them crinkle with disgust of their sight, A defeated face hiding behind the jaws of victory. I see white teeth clinging onto desperate hope, Like the Jaws of Life on a car wreck, Trying to save people from death and from worse harm, But, these jaws cannot save this poor wreck. He views with his mouth open his self-pity, He wallows like a penguin, but I should mention, He will stand up slowly but steadily. He will no longer see himself in the grimy mirror, He will clean it, and then cover it up with paper, Paper he cut from his past story with scissors, So that he may write new on the mirror so his pain will taper. Life will get better, the slate of glass will be cleaned, Pick up the broken shards and remake it new, And soon all kinds of new truths will be gleaned, And a whole new life will come, Much different from the mirror, And the paper on which you once drew.© 2015 Abhishek Ram |
