Ugly Bullying

Ugly Bullying

A Poem by Abhishek Ram
"

Remember, society is but am idea: an irrelevant idea. Be who you want to be, look how you look, don't do anything drastic forever that you or others will regret.

"

They say that your soul mate is out there somewhere,

Living their lives wondering when they’d find the right one,

They say that, “Everyone has a soul mate, don’t be scared”

Yet I worry I’ll be that exception, the person with no one.

They say that love is a beautiful thing,

The things that thaws hearts and makes birds sing,

And yet I’ve seen the opposite, thawing people’s hearts,

And you see a plague set in and the birds dying,

Doesn’t it suck, that your entire life is rejection and perfidy?

Everyone says that this sadness will have reciprocity,

That is, with felicity, the latter will replace the former,

That we should trust them without a shadow of demur,

But see, this is coming from people who can find others easily,

They will say this though it may not have been so difficult for them,

And when I say this, I mean no seemingly present animosity,

But what about people who look like phlegm?

What should they do, those people who look far from pleasing?

Their body not chiseled or perfect, their face like their sneezing?

Quite a conundrum, in my most humble point of view,

What can we say about people who look physically askew?

Can you say the same about them, those who are picked last?

The ones that are ignored, unless are desperate for a date to the dance?

What must be done, a complete makeover or changing who they are?

No matter how hard they may work, you will always see them as subpar.

I should know the feelings of those poor people, I am one,

Whose inner beauty is the only thing that could parallel the sun,

And by that I mean, the sun seen over a large, polluted city,

But I represent those who are called ugly and wish to be handsome or pretty,

Granted, it isn’t something shouted in the hallways of the community,

But it can be told by a bully, or just by general hostility,

What people don’t understand that the “ugly” people aren’t ugly at all,

No one in this world is ugly, only made so by society’s great call,

Believe it or not, this was not truly about people’s purported “ugliness”,

In reality it’s against bullying to make people feel ugly and cause them distress,

And leaving their emotions devoid of positive and in an utter mess,

And you won’t believe anyone when they say that you are actually blessed.

To the bullies:

They starve themselves to lose that unhealthy amount of weight you say,

They cake their faces with make-up so that they will look pretty for the day,

They cut their bodies in order to address the pain on them, that you placed,

And they do drugs to forget their problems and from reality, be spaced.

And then they do the final thing, something that horrifies people every day,

They kick the bucket, OD, do something where on planet Earth, they will no longer stay,

And your conscience realizes the horrible things you have done,

The horrible consequences of your little acts of “fun”,

So here I am, warning you now, a friend of people who attempted dying,

Stay away, leave them alone, and save us all from events which invoke crying,

And to all of you, being the victim of cruelty under the jealousy of cynics,

Please don’t do any of that, don’t make people worried about your health,

And certainly don’t leave intentionally prematurely, don’t keep your sadness on stealth,

Talk to people, ignore the bullies, and keep your heart going tick,

Believe me, I’ve been a subject of bullying since I was little,

It started racially, and then about my looks,

I know how you all feel, my happiness once dwindled,

And I’m trying to express skirting advice in this poetic look,

Please do the right thing and don’t leave us behind,

People do love you, the real people you find,

There are consequences on others from your actions,

They suffer to, sometimes living together in that realization,

That they felt like they could’ve done something to save you,

But they stare at your grave and instead for your return, crave you.
