Chains of Love

Chains of Love

A Poem by Abhishek Ram
"

Hidden love by one's own device

"

I live in a solitary land, built to dream of things,

Things I can never have,

Chained to the continent struggling so hard and with heart,

That reality always hits me on the dot like a dart.

But see, I'm free, just chained by own convention,

Living in chains of my own intellectual invention,

Forced to watch as things go by,

All so I can dream of you and I.

I can dream of us together as I sit trapped,

Living in these chains so I may not wander,

So I may not leave this position I am in now,

So that the dream of you and I would not go asunder.

Like Earth to its children, you give me life,

Protection against all evil, hatred, and strife,

Protected by a veil of clouds within my own mind,

The clouds that help me focus on you whom I want mine.

I shackle myself so I may never leave,

Hindered by more love than one could ever conceive,

The chains of Love keep me near you in my head,

But they keep me from coming to you instead.

I'm afraid you won't love me, so I stay away,

Afraid of what you'll do and what you’ll say,

When I tell you the truth about the chains,

That to be with you in my dreams I endure such pain,

So I choose to watch you from afar, like I'm watching the stars,

Covering you like a road's tar, like so many cars,

Coming together and jamming themselves up,

To get where they're going no matter how much the cars stop.

Except I'm already here, exactly as I fear and want to hold you, Dear,

I wish away the tears and wish you were near,

But instead I watch you so far away, watch you everyday,

So that I may one day find what I need to say.
