Savior

Savior

A Poem by Abhishek Ram
"

A testament to something that makes me who I am, the thing that saves me from insanity forever, the thing that I love unconditionally - poetry.

"
I wanted to get known, to be understood,
To reveal myself to a whole other brood,
And I have now done that, to be exact,
I have shown my poetic side to many more.

Where upon once I believed I would be seen as weak,
To talk in verse and ordain in stanza what I do every week,
"YES WORLD, IT'S TRUE! I yell, "Do not misconstrue,
the truth that I speak in verse freely in the vernacular on the daily!"

Now, nightly, when a sleepy mind keeps me awake,
I ponder life's mysteries and what God makes,
Of this world we live in, a beautiful horror of existence,
So full of purity, yet so full of sin,
So full of love, and yet so much utter negligence,

The ponderings of a teenage boy at the hour of midnight.

When once I was embarrassed to reveal my thoughts,
I can now do so, without fear of scrutiny that I never sought,
I feel free to live, I feel free to be free,
I enjoy the wind near the cliff,
of primordial feelings,
I live in a world unlike any other to be seen,
One that leaves me disbelieving.

Poetry has opened the world to me, as it may to you, dear reader,
I see the reality of life much brighter and darker, I feel like a leader,
Of my own emotions, of my own feelings, of my own destiny,
And it is all thanks to poetry that has given me the skinny,
On the universe that I see, the life that I feel and hold,
And of the temptation of that which is still untold,

Poetry saved me.
