Hero or Villain?

Hero or Villain?

A Poem by Abdur Raqeeb
"

Just a random write.

"

As the sun spreads it's warmth on a glorious morning day,

The people of Caspian, a small yet rich kingdom, plod to work along the way.

The face of the people represents visage of the bereaved,

The king’s rule has left the subjects aggrieved.

As the clock's hands move, the people keep waiting for someone to free them from despair's grasp,

For a few, a lifetime has surpassed.

Ultimately, a supposed divine being arrived,

And accentuated the need to be organized.

He uttered a speech of salvation,

Words of an angel, which captured the jaded souls of the nation.

He took them to a marvelous paradise,

And motivated them to overcome the tyrannize.

The people saw a glimpse of light, a glimmer of hope, an expectation of a better future,

The prospect of a tomorrow sans torture.

They kept following his trial, with belief that the king's rule would soon be derailed,

And eventually, they soon prevailed.

The architect of the revolution was soon crowned the king,

The citizens hoped that prosperity and joy is what he would bring.

At first, he did not betray the trust,

His rule was conscientious and just.

Donations from grateful subjects rained down on the royal treasury,

The abundant fortune could only be imagined in a state of reverie.

He was now relishing a life of luxury and opulence,

Which gradually wearied down his conscience.

His ideals shifted, He kept breaking the belief that he had forged,

Slowly, the words that were engraved in the believers hearts dissolved.

He was now rapacious, his rule of late resembled that of the past,

A rule which had left the people aghast.

Startled, The people could not believe their eyes,

For once their hero, would not listen to their cries.

Yet again, the gloom pervaded on Caspian and the people suffered,

"Is he a hero or a villain"?, the people wondered.

Woah. This is really, really, really well written. Few people can take a poem and turn it into a story. Honestly, I'm saying the truth here. Some places can use some work, such as the meter, but other than that I can't find any fault in it (i'm also probably the wrong person to ask, because I don't write poems.)

Interesting story, well thought out, and perfectly crafted. Well done. :)
