Chapter 6

*Alex’s POV*

I didn’t say anything. I couldn’t say anything. For once, a girl had made me speechless. The girl that I’d been practically in love with for years was just now telling me that she felt the same? How was I supposed to register that? Much less speak.

We sat there, staring at each other until I heard a sizzling: The water boiling over.

I jumped up immediately, and dealt with the rest of the food; setting a timer for the pasta as well. I was running around the kitchen, doing a  billion things, until I finally stopped and put my hands on the counter and ducked my head.

“Stella…” I said, shaking my head.

“I know, I know. Everything’s going to be so awkward now. I knew you didn’t feel the same way, but I just had to tell you, I mean, you’re my best friend and I can’t keep things from you! And now we’re going to work together and live together, and I totally screwed things up, and if you don’t want to work or live together anymore, you know, that’s fine, I completely understand. I mean, I should have known it would go like this, and…” She was rambling, like she always did when she was nervous or things got awkward.

“Stella, that’s not it.” I said, standing up and looking at her. Her eyes just widened even more than before, which I thought to be highly impossible.

“You still want to be friends, right?” She asked, little tears forming in her eyes.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold the phone. You’ve got it all wrong, the complete opposite, actually. Stell, I’m not going to leave and I’m not going to stop being your friend. Since we were kids I had liked you, loved you even. Why do you think I made up that silly excuse to kiss you? You were just always with someone else, so I’m the confused one here. I never would have thought you felt the same way. I only wish you’d told me sooner.” I said softly, walking to stand beside her chair.

“That sounds like something out of a movie.” She whispered, disbelief in her eyes as she stood up beside me.

“My thoughts exactly.” I said, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. “Someone’s in danger of having their hair put behind their ear.” I said, making a Zombieland reference, which she laughed at.

“Only you would make a joke like that right now.” She said, smiling. And, of course, just as I was about to kiss her, the pasta timer went off.

“Forget it.” I said, ignoring the monotonous beep of the timer.

“I knew you were a bad cook.”

“I am a damn good cook, woman. And you know it.”

End.

...Please don't kill me like Lilly will. There's going to be a follow up story. I'm sorry I've been so freaking busy. School, Theatre, volleyball, and work can get in the way of writing.

Not to mention I've been grounded. Love you!
