Stella Would You Take Me Home 005A Chapter by indiscreetisChapter five. Lilly, here you freaking go.Chapter 5 *Alex’s POV* It’d been two weeks since Stella
broke up with Cody. We’d hardly left each other’s sides. Stella was so bitter
about Cody that we moved to a different apartment complex because the last one
was too close to his. She was determined to erase everything about him from her
life. I found it entertaining and intriguing. “Well, I’m glad you finally got
your own room. I was tired of your snoring on my floor.” Stella said, nudging
my shoulder as we sat on her couch, watching mindless stuff on TV. “I know, now I have a place to keep
all of my crap. And I don’t have to wait to use the bathroom. I’ve got my own.”
I said, nudging her back. “I like this place better. It’s
bigger and we can have a table. I need to go look for a new job, too. I think
Starbucks is hiring.” She said, fiddling with her fingers. “I need one, too, so that I can
start paying half the rent. I feel like a no good bum staying at home all day
and playing guitar and video games.” Stella didn’t say anything. She sat there,
looking straight ahead. Something was bugging her, as it had been for a while.
She had a strained expression, like she couldn’t make up her mind. I touched
her shoulder, snapping her out of her thought. “Are you okay, Stell?” I
whispered. She smiled, trying to cover up whatever it was that I had seen a
couple of seconds ago, but her eyes still held the confusion, and the hidden
feelings. “I’m fine, Alex.” She said back. I sighed. She wasn’t an easy nut to
crack. “If you want to talk, just let me know.” Later that night, I sat in my room
thinking about Stella, and how I used to think that the reason she was so
somber lately was because of her and Cody, but something inside told me that
there was something else. Something I couldn’t see. Whatever it was, it was
picking at my mind, and I couldn’t let the thought go. *Stella’s POV* My feelings were all jumbled up. I
was thinking very seriously about telling Alex how I feel. Why, I don’t know.
Something seemed to be telling me to do it. But I was scared. I just couldn’t
help smiling when I saw him. Everything about him made me smile. It just...did.
“Hey, I’m going to go to Starbucks
today to see about a job. Do you want to come with?” I asked. Alex smiled and
got up from his bed. “Sure. I’ll go walk around and ask at some places, too.” I walked in to the Starbucks on the
corner of the street I lived on. “Hi, my name’s Stella, and I was wondering if
you had any jobs open.” I said, secretly crossing my fingers behind my back for
good luck. The woman smiled at the counter and said “Just a second, let me go
get the manager really quickly.” She disappeared back behind a door,
and a shorter woman came out with a badge that said ‘Cindy’ “I heard you were looking for a
job. We have a couple open right now, actually. Three of our employees just
quit. When can you start?” “Really? That’s great! Well…not
that three employees left or anything, but…yeah. Um, my friend Alex was also
looking for a job; do you think he could come in as well?” Cindy smiled and
nodded. “Sure, that would be great. You can
both come in on Monday for training. Nine o’clock sound good?” I nodded. “Thank you so much. My name is Stella, by the
way.” I said, holding my hand out for her to shake. She took it and replied
“I’m Cindy. Thank you for coming in. Can I get you a drink?” “Sure, can I have
a Chia Tea and a Vanilla Frapp, both tall?” When I told Alex about his job, he
was really happy. “Cool! We can work together. I’m
glad there was an opening there, too, because I didn’t find anything anywhere
else.” “I know, it’s going to be super
cool. Here’s a Vanilla Frapp-o-ch-i-no. I hope you like it because I’m not
going back in and getting another one. Frappy boy.” I said, handing him the
steaming drink. “You know it’s my favorite one, you
dork.” He said, gladly taking it. Riding home, I started putting
together the conversation that would take place sometime soon with me telling
Alex about how I feel. It started something like this. “Hey, remember that one time in 8th
grade when we…um…kissed and all? Well, what if…” Ugh, that sounded stupid… How
about: “I freaking like you, Alex, okay?
Now, let’s just pretend you like me, too, so that this whole living together
and working together thing isn’t extremely freaking awkward, and we can live
our freaking lives, just so I can stop saying the word freaking.” I think it
could work… *Alex’s POV* When we got back to the apartment,
I could still tell that Stella had something on her mind, and she was thinking
really hard about it. It was obvious that something was wrong, and it was
really annoying that I couldn’t do anything about it. “Stella, do you want some food? I
wanna cook something.” I said. Her eyes widened. “You? Cook? HAHAHAHAHA! You’re
funny.” I frowned. “I, madam, am an amazing f*****g
chef. So sit down and await the sensational food of which I am about to cook.
D****t.” She rolled her eyes, smiled and sat down. Not the smile. I started getting the makings ready
for pasta, boiling water, putting sauce into the pan, chopping up some meat all
fancy, and putting the noodles in to the steamy water. “You look all professional and
stuff.” Stella said from the kitchen table. I went and sat across from her. “I have a question.” I asked,
looking at her. “And what’s that?” She asked,
meeting my eyes. “What’s really wrong? Please tell
me Stella, I want to help you.” Her eyes lost mine, and she twiddled her
thumbs. “Stell? You can tell me anything, but if you don’t want to, that’s
fine.” She just
looked at me, like she was contemplating weather or not she should tell me a
huge secret. God I hope she wasn’t pregnant. “Stell?” I
urged her. She took a
deep breath, and said it. Just plain said it. “Alex, don’t
hate me, but I like you.” © 2011 indiscreetisAuthor's Note
