Saddleback

Saddleback

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

Saddleback

Sugar filled simplicity,
letting loose crooked smiles
in a kitchen
without cupboards.

An open door,
a book
or mind,
sitting tight
for the ride
of a lifetime.

Shallow memories;
snapdragons in a broken vase,
wilted by too much time
ignored in the summer sun.

A title wave
from the past,
a bulldozer,
dynamite with a short fuse.

Just one stick will do,
will do just fine.

And the dream is never ending,
tattoos and tobacco
salt
when salt wont do.

I grit my teeth
and tear bread
from the loaf,
half expecting to taste
the mold.

And so what if I do.
