Patience

Patience

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

Patience

Mislead;
an unwanted adventure,
more like,
the licking of
the ice cream bowl.

She screams “Patience!”
most impatiently.

And bares her soul
to the world,
quaking,
shivering like dust
when the Earth moves.

The smell of the air
brings her tears
to dry,
abruptly;
stinging trails of salt
from her lower lids
to her mouth
and neck.

Screaming, “Patience!”

When she should
be whispering
for tolerance.

But why bother;
for the sun stopped shining
on her face
long ago.

And she has been left alone
with only the will to fight,
but not the strength.

And her skin shakes
as if caught in a freezing rain.

A pathetic portrait
in the garden,
of her brave new world.
