24 Hour Chip

24 Hour Chip

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

24 Hour Chip

If there were ever a time

for a Miller Lite

I guess it would be now,

and a cigarette,

and a shot of Wild Turkey.

Celebrating

even though you shouldn’t,

but slipping comes easy

all you need is

the excuse.

Any excuse will do.

Take a ride downtown

on a trolley,

or the city bus,

looking for some action

and finding it.

Just another day

with your head

between your hands.

And tomorrow there’s

a meeting,

another 24 hour chip

to add to the collection.

Then a whiskey sour

two doors down.

It’s all the things

you think about,

when you are in line

buying wine for a buck.

And it’s only

6 in the morning,

but the line

in this liquor store,

is always here.
