Smothered

Smothered

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

Smothered

Walking in the sunshine

for the first time,

every step

the thoughtful

consideration

of something different.

And there are those

who frown when passed,

as the lackluster drawings

of their unremarkable life

hit them between the eyes.

And their pitiful

responses in kind,

a way to be dominant

without being dominated,

it is like drinking

expensive wine

through a dirty straw.

It is awfully obvious

what has smothered

their every conscious thought.

And in diversity

all they see is fault,

with no recognition

of their own misrepresentation

of purity.

Most obvious

to those in the know.
